Hey Guys,
I recently lost my keys (unfortunatley both sets now) i was just wondering? does anyone know if FTO has a 'chip' in it? the locksmiths keep asking me if there is a chip in it and because my fto is 1995 model they dont think it is? can anyone confirm?

Re: FTO Keys
My understanding is this...
Most FTO keys do have a chip in them (which is why some places might object to cutting you a new one when you hand over your original and they pick up the signal), however I believe the security coding is removed during compliance so it is no longer used in the car startup procedure.
Long story short, as long as you can find a suitable blank to create from, a basic cut key will work fine....unless you have also lost your aftermarket immobiliser remote which is another kettle of fish.

from memory, there was another thread on here from a little while ago about this: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=19657&p=217647&hil ... ey#p217647
pretty much backs up what evoman said

Hey Guys,
Just got my keys last night made up
I can confirm that 1995 FTO's dont have transponders and aslong as your key opens
the boot, doors & ignition it will work on start up
also, dont get ripped off by auto locksmiths that charge you $100 + for your key
i got my key made for $25.00 and $6.50 for every key there after =D
