Are you sure it wasn't your rattling boot that got the EPA's attention rather than the exhaust?

LOL  yeah, i was just letting the town know that the FTOs were coming in :D

Also, I went to the Exhaust place today and the guy that was booking me in looked at my car and said 'So its a Toyota Celica...' i said 'No... its a FTO' he said 'Ok... TOYOTA FTO' LOL!

U would think that owning a exhaust shop in a suburb like Box Hill you would have at least seen one FTO. :D

yeah i went to Daalder Exhausts because that was one of the certified exhaust shops that were on the list they sent me.
I didnt have it tested because they were shutting up shop by the time i got there. But i did book it in for the 26th of june, so i'll give a full report then.

Got the EPA test done today in the cold morning.

Car was tested at 3200RPM because the FTO wasnt listed in the EPA book so they had to take it from a 6 cylinder default (3200rpm or 3/4 of when redline starts).
I got a reading of 85dB which is well below the 90dB limit (suck sh*t too all those EPA knobs who were trying to screw me!!!) obviously once the revs hit 5800rpm (Mivec  ) it shot up to 105dB!!
even my mate with a series 7 RX-7 was impressed! :D

I just got a cannon type muffler for my car, and there was no option for the type of muffler I got for a baffle plate, and it is significantly louder then the stock, so I have to ask, at 3,200 will all FTO's be well below the legal limit?

because I am kinda scared, cops will do me, for my exhaust.... Can I just come back with... at 3,200, which is what the EPA will test my car at, I am below the limit? So suck my dick sir?

Also in Vic, is the CAI from unique legal? or am I going to have problems with it?

Well if u want the cop to defect your car then go ahead  Cops generally wont pull u over to serve u with an EPA notice, u'll just recieve a letter in the mail telling u that u need to get it checked, if your really that worried why don't u just got get it done now, u can keep the results in your glovebox then just in case!

Im pretty sure the CAI would b legal as its just a replacement pipe and pod filter, still its not stock so its up to the cops discresion!

Oh and word of warning, make sure u pass the attitude test with any cop u talk to as they have the power to do pretty much whatever they want if u piss them off!!

i cant really see a FTO giving a higher than legal dB rating at 3200rpm. Just make sure u have the stock air box on and u should be right. :)

As i said before, the EPA probably wanted to shaft me because i was probably hammering my system. So no need to worry about it now, ive been driving around with this exhaust for 8 months and it only cost me $27.50 for the test anyway.

make that FTO - 1 EPA - 1
the previous owner of my FTO didn't tell me that he had an existing EPA notice.. anyways..
here in SYdney the FTO was tested on 4250rpm....
if I knew standard 6 cylinder was tested on 3200rpm.. i would have fought for that... anyways.... as you can imagine, on 4250 revs.. the FTo was loud... especially during backoff....
so it looks like in sydney.. they have a listing for FTO... unless the officer didn't know it was a V6....

at least now i'm more confident.. and can tell them to test it on 3200.. if I ever get a notice again... :)

Someone had previously mentioned that it might differ from state to state. So it might be 3200rpm in VIC and 4250rpm in NSW.

Personally, I can't understand why you would want such a loud exhaust. A louder exhaust does not necessarily mean better performance, but it often does mean attracting more attention, both good and bad .

Like all the other post had pointed out, it all depends what mod u got on your car.

So some might pass at low rpm & some might not.

Hmm 3200 RPM.

Someone should see if we can pass without any muffler! (Gotto be a performance gain in that!) :D

Not cause you lose back pressure, which what N/A cars need, unless you planning to put a turbo in.
