today it has ben raining all day, and i drove from geelong to melbourne and back with no problems, but i noticed when i put it in tip mod getting to it wouldnt change gear as soon as i got in the car on the way bak, i thought it could be something to do with my paddle shifters i made ages ago was shorting or sumthing and they wouldnt read.. so i thought il wait to get bak to geelong and turn the car off n on to see if it works,,
but as in mid geelong my car wouldnt leave 1st gear for 20 seconds going around a corner,, then it clunked into 3rd, and cant change from there (limp mode)...
but the thing is that i was at a few other intersections in geelon minutes before and auto was fine, and coz it is raining the wheels would spin a little bit on 1 or 2 of the intersections about 3 mins before it stuffed up...
i read up on the limp mode, and i dont think anything is damaged, also because there is no flashing N that i have noticed yet. so i am wondering what u guys think of it? something shorting? or (what i may think) that because it was raining and the car's wheels were spinning in the wet at times (not much, but i did drag someone at 1 point) that the speed sensors/throtle possition has confused it?...
any way to do a reset? i tried at work by disconnecting the battery for halfa but no success.. i would say it might need to cool down or dry out if it is a harmless problem before i reset.. but anything i can check or do?
thanks guys
limp mode, but probs no problem?

check error codes firdtcan be anuthing from simple fuse due to short (maybe paddle shifter is cause)
to input sensor and/or fluid etc

Re: limp mode, but probs no problem?
okay,,did the diagnostics test,, the check engine light kept flashing 2 times a second without stopping the whole time it was earthed, but the abs flashed in a sequence of error 14 ( flaaaaaash,,,,flash flash flash flash), apparently the Rear left wheel speed sensor Open circuit .... but on the error diagnostic forum page is says something about disconnecting the abs valve, which i did not,,,, does that matter??
but his sensor.. what can people tell me about it? should i do a resistance test to see if there is a break in the line? what would be the problem with this sensor besides its snapped off or a broken line,, just get a new 1 and replace it (if i cant clean it up to make it work)? or is there more to it? replace the inpput sensor (assuming that the speed sensors route directly to the input).
thanks guys, much apresiated

how did yo wire up the paddle shifters. Maybe a connection came loose and just shorted for a second. Thats where I would be starting, even disconnect it if you can and see if that fixes said problem.

I'm a bit confused here, you had a gearbox problem but you haven't written up what the gearbox diagnostic codes were?
What did the flashing N tell you when you did the diagnostic check?

Re: limp mode, but probs no problem?
The n wasnt flashing. Only the abs and check engine. So i hope that means no tranny probs. Going off the flashing of the abs is code is 14. Left rear speed sensor. Can anyone inform me about it? Anyone had issuesnwith one? Could it still be a speed input sensor seeing as im
Assuming that the rear speed sensor leads to the speed input. Thanks

Your brake sensors have nothing to do with the gearbox I'm afraid. They only go to the ABS ECU.millsy wrote:The n wasnt flashing. Only the abs and check engine. So i hope that means no tranny probs. Given that you got the codes for the brakes and the engine I know you were doing it right but you really should have gotten codes from the gearbox as well. I would try again for gearbox codes.
Another thing, you said it was raining so I would stick my hand on top of the gearbox ECU and check it wasn't wet. Easy check and something else to rule out

Re: limp mode, but probs no problem?
okay,,, finally got it,,, it was the padle shifters shorting I THINK,,, it was fuse no.3 shorting out, not sure if the tiptronic shifter has a fuse or not, but im only guessing that it was shorting,, but just so everyone knows this in the future, check if your reverse lamps work if your ever in limp mode,,, that could have saved me LOTS of time.
