blowing smoke while on idle

Its seems as though when Im just sitting on idle that the drivers side blows a lot of white smoke
Havent noticed any coming out of the passnger side but its hard to see sometimes, any suggestions as to what it might be? and how I can stop it?

If it is blowing white smoke all the time, it usually is water or coolant in the exhaust.... Not a very good sign at all. Keep a very close eye on your coolant levels and report back.

So just top up my coolant and it should be alright?

Well no not really. I dont like to scare people as it might not be problem without further testing (which is extremely hard over the net). But IF it is really water from your cooling system then it MAY be a blown head gasket. BUT, just watch your coolant levels over the next week or two and if your needing to top up the coolant report back here and I will advise further.

nah it wasnt white smoke it was blue = oil.

and to be honest I dont think I have ever topped up my coolant, always been a dad job, so I wouldnt know what its like

I am afraid so, blue = oil = very bad. It means that oil is seeping past the piston rings. Which will mean engine rebuild at some stage.

ohh FML, is there anyway of getting that sussed out for certain? cause Im not going to spend a whole bunch of money making it look good just for the engine to blow up!

Could it just be cause of really thin oil? (not sure what that means was a suggestion from a friend)

Yeah, you could get 2 years out of it or 2 months. Depends on how much oil it is going through now. Leave your car over night and check your oil, then check it again in another 2 weeks.

How blue is the smoke? Is it constant? Is it blue smoke or black smoke (very important). Black smoke can just mean running rich but blie smoke is ring leakage.

You need to answer these questions for me to tell you whether it is worth getting a compression test or not.

from what I can see its not blue or black, its white

I will leave it over night and check my oil and coolant

its not constant, only when Im idling I think, cause even when I drive realy slow but Ims till moving there isnt smoke

^^^^ Going off that, I wouldnt be worrying at all. Get someone to give a good high rev for 10 seconds, while you watch the exhaust. Let me know how you go.

It blew smoke in places where i think u had the engine under load up the hill. it was intermittent. But when i was behind u i could definietly see blue smoke.
