Samco Hoses in. Coolant temps slightly up. Concern?

Post by Valandis91 »

Ok so im not sure if this is for concern or not but thought id double check just in case.

On sunday i installed my Samco Hoses (minus power steering) into my car.

As i did not know what coolant was used previously i did a flush, well attempted to by putting the garden hose up the bottem radiator pipe which feeds in the engine for about half a minute. Not much came out but i stopped not wanting to cook the engine.. i then drained the radiator, took off the old hoses and put on my new hoses which now look like this

i had purchased a repco coolant - anti freeze/ anti boil and anti corrosion. they said its made by penrite so i thought hey why not so i got it. may be regretting it now. when i added it in it only tool 3.5L when its meant to take 6.3L so i thought i mustn't've flushed properly but this coolant didnt say anything about not to add to others so i proceeded to thorroughly bleed the system. as i have a emanage ultimate i can datalog and get information from it and have noticed changed since. So its really cold down here lately averaging around 10 degrees during the day so temp do not play issue. this data is from a run through a bendy road and giving it a bit as u can see from the red line which is rpm. the light blue line is the coolant temp.

on this one you can see it has subtle changes ranging from 86 degrees to 89.

the one below here is after i did the hose swap. this is a shorter sample of data but on the same scale.
this is from city driving but still cold.

Image

as you can see the coolant temps range higher up and are more zig zaggy to say. they range from 90 to 94.

is this ok?

or should i do another flush? orr better coolant?? i only got this one cos it had anti corrosion as well. how do i do it properly without attacking the drain points on the block.
i searched it and did it how bennoz said with the garden hose but didnt seem to get it out.

the radiator has had an overhaul as well so its not that.

thank you

Did you get all the air out of the system before winding the cap back on?

yeah i did. i had it running quite awhile before putting the cap back on. like max 10 mins?

fair few bubbles came out. i had a cloth with me cos it would slowly get to full and overflow. and id soak it up with the cloth...

Bit hard to read the time scale there, but did the thermo fans come on & off? If so, I'd call that normal. Does the emanage run the fans or is that still done by the stock ECU?
I can't remember what the trigger temp is for the stock ECU to turn the fans on, but its around 90. Pretty sure I've got my Haltech set at 88.

Best way to get all the air out is to keep squeezing the hoses and you will notice the coolant level will slowly drop, when it doesn't drop anymore you just need to top it up.

If your not going to remove the bung from the block to release the air (who can be bothered lol) then you need to jack the front of the car, the higher the better. The radiator cap needs to be the higest point of the cooling system. Also to stop the water over flowing use some sort of bottle (I use a old wyns product bottle, as the nozzle fits perfectly), cut the bottom off fit it upside down...if you know what I mean. Also rev the engine, doesnt have to high but just to get the water pump, pumping hard.

i did exactly this. when reving the levels went down then slowly came back up.

the first is obviously 0. then the next one is 197seconds. well i was driving so i would guess so? not sure actually might sus that out now.

im just wondering as to why its higher and not as stable as before.

i dont know if it works properly. its cold when it cold then it doesnt gradually climb it just jumps to the middle when its warm and doesnt usually move from the same position so i dont know if its trustworthy haha....

and yeah just a bit. i just really want to get this running right. just got ignition timing to do. According to RPW theres not much proper timing happening with these cams so could see decent gains from that. hopefully with my tax back :)

Paranoid! Did you turn your heater on with the cap off?? 10 minutes isn't enough I don't reckon.
