Got my car back from repair
Finially after a week, got my car back, everything cost me 2k to fix, -_-, im really not sure if they over change me or not, but they replaced my Camshaft and Crankshaft seals, Camshaft drive belt, replaced my alternator, rebuilt the alt ($575), all up with labour cost $2000, reasonable? If anyone didnt know, i went to Aza's mechanic at pulse racing.
But in the end, i do feel the car is much smooth, an runs better, i guess thats all it matters, u pay for the quality i guess.

Re: Got my car back from repair
It sounds like a lot of work/time to do those seals ( I don't know myself, more a question than a statment )
would be interested to find out more about cost for the job from ppl that have done it befor.
But the big question is are you happy with the job done? it sounds like you are.
I know that its a big hit to the pocket $2000 but its fixed and has a garentee.

Re: Got my car back from repair
well, i am happy with the repair, just didnt thought the price would be that much even though they gave me the quotes. but o well, theres 1 yr warranty too, but i doubt it will have these problems again in a yr. LOL an btw, they added their sticker "pulse racing" under my rear wiper rofl, i should charge them for advertising lol

Re: Got my car back from repair
thats crazy
i suppose tightening and loosening nuts takes a lot of skill
jokes aside though where does all the money go?
the shop must keep a lot of it because a mechanics salary isn't extravagant

$80 per hour is cheap already!brad_gpx wrote:i dont get why mechanics charge about $80+ an hour for labour

eddii, you are welcome to stay...lol...
but on a serious note, $2k on labour is really expensive.
and i dont like mechanics putting stickers on my car without my consent. but i dont mind having pulse racing after their achievements at superlap....haha.

Re: Got my car back from repair
$80 is pretty much the lowest labour cost i found
$2k of labour should be able to get you an engine swapped in and a new clutch, timing belt etc fitted and also the pulling apart of an old engine to see whats wrong with it
did for me anyway

I think it would have been $2000 for the total bill not just labour.

Re: Got my car back from repair
I charge in beer!
Considering what was done, I'd say thats more than a fair price.... espcially when done by pros like Pulse. Piece of mind is everything.
Take out the alternator component ($575) and that leaves you with $1400 (inclusive of parts too mind you) for a timing belt change & cam seal changes...
For those of you that don't know whats involved in that, the timing belt in itself requires half the side of the engine to come off, plus the crank main seal is a c**t to do, buried under all the timing gear. Then the cam seals require the intake manifold off, both rockers off, both cam carriers out, then on reassembly, there's 24 tappets to reset.
Then there's the time getting the alternator in & out... albeit made easier by not having the timing end of the motor on when doing it.
Thats probably the best $2000 grand you'll spend on it eddii, You should now get a good 100,000kms of trouble free motoring out of it.

How big of a job is it to do the Lifters?
I have a feeling that its my lifters making my nosie and not so much tappets (probably tappets too but ontop of that, lifters
)

I've heard your motor (before it was your motor) and yeah, its tappets. Fortunately for you, its a GR donk, so its got the hydraulic tappets - aka drop in & forget.Kustom_FTO wrote:How big of a job is it to do the Lifters?

At the moment, Meek Automotive have a cracking deal on the hydraulics here: http://www.meek.com.au/index.php?act=vi ... ductId=112
I'd do a full set of 24 swapped out for 2 cases of beer & a bottle of Beam.

Re: Got my car back from repair
yep, aza is right, 2k for everything not just labour, lol ben, thanks for that, now i will stick with the fto longer now, feel wasted if i change car now -_- wahahha btw ben, $575 was just to re-condition the alt, $350 is how much they charge me labour for doing the alt, i never knew it would cost that much to re-condition it, cause they gave me the quote was 200-500, and its 575 now T.T, and the problem with the alt was the leaking oil drip in/on the alt an fuked it up, if it wasnt of the leak my alt is fine -_- sighhhhh I HATE LEAKS
