Mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust, extractors= power loss 4 me!?!?!
Hey am having a problem with my newly fitted exhaust....... i have less power than what i had with the stock, here are the specs
extractors (look like custom made) (no heat wrapping)
fujitsubo giken rear muffler
2.5" mandrel bent piping
small resonator, large resonator
looks like a standard style cat
Comments can be made on this page also which includes PICTURES of the system
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=20985
how can i loose power from doing this? i know i may loose some tourque but im taking 9.5 seconds to 100kmph!!!! with a sub box, veilside bodykit and a 100kg passanger
for the test i used 98octane fuel
Custom CAI
sheilded(not enclosed) pod filter
exhaust system described in this post
94gpx
tiptronic
when i lifted the fujitsubo giken exhaust there felt like somthing about 2kgs was rolling around in it. As stated in the otherthread that i have LiNKeD the car ran considerably better with the rear muffler unbolted from the rest of the system and hanging(think it was 8.5 to 100kmph and F**KIN LoUD!!) lol
any HeLP would be greatly apprecitated especially from people who have experienced similar circumstances
many thanx in advance

Do you have your own drag strip? How you measuring it?

i might, any helpfull advice anyone?
even if i didnt have my own fully bitumen dragstip complete with timers, christmas tree and burnout box(which i do have in my backyard ...somewhere) i live around a lot of 110kmph speed limit roads. either way even driving it around town its a noticable difference in power>.. its got heaps less of it>
really soujnding like the rear muffler has collapsed
any suggestions for a cannon?

Re: Mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust, extractors= power loss 4 me!
yea i know i think theres a lot of welding but its deffinatly mandrel bent(i spent probably 6- 8 hours installing it all, extractors were a bitch to install)
i installed it, i sealed all the gaskets and theres no leaks at all from any of the joins. messy are at least as strong and dont affect the inside of the pipe .
as i said before car runs better with rear exhaust off(it shouldent because then there would b less back pressure and it would be less torquey) but still worse performance than before with the stock exhaust system. i only went 2.5" and i put extractors on so i shouldent c any power loss at all i should c power gains!
put it this way...... even when its on the car if i get my habd, grab the exhaust and shake it it rattles like fcuk
pretty sure rear exhaust is the problem.... any suggestions for a new rear muffler?

Thats one of the worst collector pipes I've ever seen, almost as bad as stock. Gases from both banks are colliding head on there...

This is what a good set of collector pipes should look like:

Coulped to the fact that its an old exhaust, it could well have a collapsed muffler core, or even a collapsed cat core - or both.

lol, you're asking the wrong guy man, I f*cking hate canons. Every tossers & his rice burner has a canon, its just a megaphone for calling the cops.
Also keep in mind Jap exhaust products (if thats what you actually end up with from your Ebay purchase...) have a tendancy to rust, and quickly.
There are dozens of aftermarket high flow mufflers on the market. Have a look at Magnaflow.
A majority of the power you make with an exhaust system is not done at the muffler, its done with smooth flow away from the heads & the cat.
Its been dyno tested in an FTO, the removal of the factory cat & replaced with a high flow unit can unleash upto 10kws at the wheels.
Different exhaust headers will also give different results, for instance having longer length header sections from the heads will give you
more usable torque down low, where as short length, early joining styles will give you more up high in the rpm range.
Your issue (from what I can tell with just pics) is that shithouse join where the 2 banks meetup.
I recently redid that section on the misses GPX and it was a new car to drive... heaps more grunt.

Re: Mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust, extractors= power loss 4 me!
hmmmmmm though it may be so ill probably still replace the rear muffler first.... whenever i look at aftermarket exhaust options that arnt cannons they want me to buy a whole new system... any links or places i can buy any rear muffler that some1 would recomend? its easy to say do this or do that but its hard to find products. this is putting a lot of strain on the motor coz of the collapsed exhaust because its chocking it i think so i want a fairly fast solution.
taking it to a exhaust guy 2moro and seeing what he reckons about it b ut ill get hhim to check the y pipe

This is the system we recently had made up for mine. Its 3 inch which is too big for a normal FTO, but the principles still apply.
Its coping with 250+kws... quite nicely.

Most exhaust shops that stock Magnaflow stuff could source it for you, it was about $250 from memory.
Whole system was $900 in material & about $500 in labour.
BTW, edited your posts into 1. Just use the edit button to the top rght of your posts to do it.

hey bennoz thiknin of gettin a magnaflow. my exhaust dosent wanna put a cop magnet of an exhaust on my car and have it coming back to him.
http://www.modyourcar.com.au/magnaflow- ... -tip-p5877
would that be the best choice???
http://www.modyourcar.com.au/magnaflow- ... -tip-p5878
or this? i would be loosing pipe diamater by going for the 2.25 but the 3 inch would be more suited for turbo engines yeah?
any other links to a good muffler for tme would be appreciated ive booked my car in for the work just gotta find a muffler now.
actually i need somthing likr yours bennoz, where can i buy? and did it come with the pipe out the end and the tips?

I got all my gear from Envy Imports in Brookvale - http://www.envyimports.com.au
My previous 2.5" system was different thou, it used Herrod mufflers, resonators & cats.
That was done by Hi Tech Mufflers in Darlighurst - http://www.hitechmufflers.com.au
