started my licensing on a 2001 Merc A160. that thing is half-decent (sounded great when you took the top off the air-filter box ), but we've since gotten rid of it. Also used a 1997 Chrysler Voyager (aka the spaceship/magic schoolbus). engine was great for an american car, handled OK, sounded decent, but wasn't overly effective... too wallowy. Dad's 1972 VW Kombi (complete with bed in the back)... the gearbox is shocking, the steering is heavy (no power steering), the brakes need to be stood on before they work, and the clutch gives your left quad a good workout. only good thing is the engine sound from the twin-carby flat four =P Then onto dad's 1989 735iL.... god i love that thing. goes hard for a 1.8tonne 6cyl, sounds amazing, and even has the ability to choose gears manually (all four of them!). had a peugeot 307 HDi for a while (complete with "TURBO" badge on the back). surprisingly quick for a diesel, though the torque steer got irritating... handled awesomely... only lost traction on the rear once (going round a wet roundabout too quick ). Now i've got my triton, and it handles quite well for a 2tonne 4x4, also nice and interesting to drift. newest addition is mum's Audi A5 3.0TDi with quattro... that thing just doesn't let go. it's simply amazing.

in conclusion, i figure i'm a fan of newer cars. that being said, i love the feel of old racers (like the FTO's and other sports cars)

My first car was a 82 gemini and that drove really well for an old car.It had twin webbers on it 2lt block g161 cylinder head and extractors,when you put you foot down it just went like hell and the sound that came from that thing was just intoxicating lol.However it did use a lot of fuel and oil and it did not go around corners that well and it had a shitload of rust,it was a sad day when i sold it.My second car was a 85 ae80 corolla with a 1300cc motor 4 speed,which was painfully slow and would understeer in corners when pushed abit.I still loved it 275000kms with a cracked head and it still drove ok.Before my fto i had a 89 eunos roadster mx5 1.6 and i can see why this car won 150 awards world wide,it was brilliant.It only had 120hp but it weighed 940kg so it still had decent acceleration but the best thing about this car was the handling,It had heaps of grip and if it got sideways it was really easy to recover.I saw to many old dudes and chicks driving this type of car so i sold it.Then i bought the mitsushity. (joke)IMO old cars pre 2000 are better than the newer ones mainly because of there simplicity.Every new model is heavier and bigger then there predesesors to obviously make them safer,but it just ruins the driving experience.

My misses has a brand new 200kw Aurion as her work car, will wallop any FTO down the quarter (does a 14 from the factory ) but handles like a dog on lino. I hate it.

What are you talking about? My FTO does V8's! 200KW Aurion? The XR6 non turbo and SV6 3.6L SIDI all are in the 14's now (From Motor Mag) pppfffffffffff.

Yeah if your fto is a manual with minor mods it is possible.I know a stock gpx manual can do a high 14s to low 15s, tip ftos are high 15s low 16s.

Yep if your car has decent mods,exhaust ,cai ,extractors ,enlarged throttle body with aftermarket piggyback etc maybe.The tiptronic box is a nice box but fto,s are only good in manual.
