Any comments on this car ?

Post by basho »

:D Like the title "Any comments on this car ?" I'm thinking of buying this-

http://www.autoshop.net.au/used.php?pag ... id=3645224

-and wondered if anyone knows the car or would like to post any comments regarding value for marque which seems to me to be somewhat high , but what do I know ?
I also noticed that it appears de-badged , is this normal ? are any FTO's produced without badges etc.
Any comments or "look for" tips gratefully received.
Cheers.

Looks very neat. Being almost dead on 100 000kms, you would need to make sure its had the 100 000k service (timing belt etc).

For that price, you would expect for it to be in a very very good mechanical condition, as other facelifted GPXs and GPRs are going much cheaper than that at the moment.

There is no way in hell I would pay that much for a fto......

At first I thought it looked very clean, then I saw the price tag :\
It would be at tops, $10,000-$11,000

As mentioned by Rock-it, that is definitely NOT a version R.

Go and stick it to the dealer for misleading advertising, and tell him you won't say anything if he sells it to you for 5k

But seriously it looks in excellent condition, just needs a more realistic price.
IMO from a dealer probably 12k is about the best you could hope for unless they start getting really desperate.

:D Thanks guys most helpfull , my problem is I don't know enough about FTOs to be able to identify exactly which/what it is when I actualy see it so I'm an easy mark in that respect , I've checked Redbook and so I have a rough idea what 97 is worth , within about a grand anyway as there are two manuals listed.--I'm guessing early and late production but what the difference is I'm rooted if I know , was there ever a 98 production run :?:
It realy depends on how much history the car has as well , I'm way over taking anyones word on servicing , if it aint receipted it aint happened , I already know it doesn't have it's Japanese books so the Ks are already sus as well.
I'll duck down tomorrow and have a look-see, we're talking a nice deal on a trade so who knows.

Yes there was a 98 production run. It ran through 'til 2000.

Redbook is simply behind the times.

The seats are not worn on the edge, the steering wheel and gear nob dont look faded or worn, engine bay looks really clean, especially the engine cover. The condition of those things can tell you if the kms are legit or not,and also tappet noise.$18000 is a lot for an fto
even if they have proof the major service was done.

I emailed these guys a month ago telling them to stop advertising it as a Version R.

Along with about 200 words explaining why it wasn't a GPvR and their response;

"Thanks"

Some poor bastard could pay that and be none the wiser.

I'd prefer to buy privately as I'm long over putting dealers kids through private school but I'm in the usual trap , I need to sell my R34GT-t before buying and as we already have a second car , partners PT Cruiser , I'm not going to buy a third car which I have nowhere to park anyway while I tick around selling , which realy puts me at the mercy of the dealers if I want to change over reasonably quickly.

What would an 'R' have thats seeable to make it different to the others ?
It would be handy to know before I look at the car as me chirping up 'that aint an R' wont cut any mustard if I'm challenged on the statement and don't know

GPvR are the higher model and generally sell for 1-2k more than most gpxs of the same year

:D Yup thanks I understand that but what is the visible difference, different dash, wheels, seats ?
Like I wrote before this one looks like its been de-badged and an FTO newby like me has no idea what I shold look for to prove it is or isn't an FPvR. :D

The versionR's dont have a climate control. They have a manual heater/ac control, from memory they dont have electric windows either.
