Tappety tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tappety tappets
So apparently my tappets are one of my strange noises (thanks Kustom for the diagnosis) ..
Anyone have an approx idea of cost to get that sorted when I get my car done at Joe & Ricks in a couple of weeks time?

Do you have a MIVEC or non-MIVEC engine?

not much you can do apart from an oil change or if you want to go all out and replace the whole thing.
you can adjust them on the mivec motor but not on the non mivec.
mine sounded pretty bad before servicing, and according to stef it's quiet as now, so fingers crossed joe and rick will have that magic touch with yours too lol

Re: Tappety tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tappety tappets
I have replaced my tappets with these:
http://meek.com.au/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=169
I did it about 2 months ago and I have not heard a single tap. Bitch of a job but I am really happy with the results.
If you do it yourself, the cost ends there. It is a pain to do but quite doable in a day.
If you take it to a shop, I would guesstimate about 5-6 hours labor.

Re: Tappety tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tap tappety tappets
think ive got the same issue, little bit of tapping for about 2mins on cold start up (so morning and after work). It buggers off and i forget about it, but i sounds like its dying during the tapping.
Do the ones from meek fit exactly the same - cause $275 is very cheap for 24 tappets. IF they do them im all over those asap.
One thing though, anyone got the guide for back bank of tappets, can't get onto the ftooc diy forum.

The meek ones are a perfect fit.
A diy can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=23&t=7258
I would recommend this tool if you are doing it:
http://meek.com.au/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=188
Makes the removal / installation much easier. They occasionally come up on ebay cheaper than this.
The only thing I would add to the diy is to make sure that the tappets are easy to compress before you install them. The meek ones I got were rock hard. If you install them like this YOU WILL BEND YOUR VALVES! You must release the pressure before installing them. I used a paper clip and followed this video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKX2pYVO0Ak
There are also videos on youtube on how to use the lifter tool.

Yeh, No kidding, your car out of the FTO's last night was the quietest hehehe, so yes Stef was right, after he explained to me your's hadn't been serviced in AGES

But Yano glad to hear it's running (sounding) nice

Half price since I got the lifters!! Lifters suck arse anyway my second set are tapping again. By the sounds of it, its two of them. Mitsubishi should be shot with their lifter issues. I don't understand how a Ford Falcon/Comodore dont even get a slight tick after 400000kms.
There are also videos on youtube on how to use the lifter tool.

I wish I had that tool when I did mine. I was at one stage sitting on my engine because I could not get enough leverage!
