FTO
Anyone thought of owning anything else? anyone owned anything else? how does it compare. i dont have any doubts at all that i have selected the best car 4 me. driving in the middle of the city in manual mode made me really appreciate how zipppy the car is. have looked at 3 fto's in the last month and nothing compares to to condition of mine Including a gpvr.
everyone's thoughts on this car overall. practicallity, driveability, power, corners, ergonomics, style...
i think this car gets 9/10, yes it aint the most powerfull car but i challenge anyone to tell me a car that has more pony's under then bonnet from a 2litre or smaller NA pre 1995 engine. and thats not even getting started on the sexy curves, projector headlights that look sweet, sexy coupe look, 16 inch on a FWD etc.
This car has won and deserved many awards including the presdegious japan car of the year award.
what are ya favorite things about your ride????? do ya have any regrets about buying and think u should hae brought somthing else.... if so, what?
trhanks, if your still reading............ dont! just comment

Re: FTO
Biggest regret is buying to early and ending up spendin a lot to fix things
I think it lacks power and people see it as a sports car when its not really
The lack of parts and after market add ons suck witch make doing up a engine costly as it has to be custom
In the end the money spent doing up the fto could have bought some thing like a evo

Re: FTO
The Honda s2000 has about the best tuned 2l motor (production) that ive seen but as you said its not pre 1995.
I think any car that can go from 0-100 in less than 7 i would call a sports car, and the fto has really good handling aswell. As far as going around a track goes you can still mod it and keep it N/A and it'll still be as fast as a highly modded evo believe it or not (within a second on a 1 minute track). I know this because a man with a worked 1.9l mivec hybrid motor in a FWD CC lancer (4cyl) has done just that and has the timeslips to prove it around barbagello, i dont think his car is all thaat much lighter than an FTO but it does put out 180hp atw this lancer.
Evo's / rwd cliche's are for wank factor only imo
saying that, the worst thing is people will actually go to the lenths of buying THE shittest car in the world because it has RWD and then be proud of it... wheres the slap icon

Re: FTO
for the price of the car its probably one of the funnest to drive in my opinon
i like:
- how it looks unique
- the attention i get driving it
- its fun to drive
- its comfy
- there is a whole forum with help if i have a problem with it
- i can drive it on my p's
i dislike:
- how small it is and how i often have to use a different car when i have a lot to carry with me. i suppose an ideal car for me would be a wagon, however i like the fto way to much
- the attention i get from police
- it only has 4 seats
- it gets bogged quite easily
if i was going to buy something else i would probably buy a sedan, wagon or 4WD just for the size of the car

Re: FTO
I dont see why everyone has a problem with the power of their fto's??
I spin thru 1st and 2nd and can get to 100km's pretty quick.
Its a fun car, not slow at all, sounds awesome, looks awesome.
Everything else is so boring compared to an FTO. With an EVO, skyline, lancer etc its all been done before, you rarely see an FTO. You have a chance to make something different, i reckon doing it all custom is awesome and i congratulate all that have successfully turboed their FTO you basically have instant respect from everyone.
and eh.. driving on a dirt road, no thanks, stone chips galore! :O
And problems with space??? The boot is MASSIVE!! Also i love cramming 3 other people into the fto, i love how low it sits and its funny listening to people groaning as they get out LOL. I find if im going on a long trip with passengers i tend to take only 2, one for in the front and just one in the back so they can i guess sprawl along the backseat.
The attention is awesome, i work at a servo and i get a lot of people asking what it is etc even had a group of people walking around it wondering what it is cos it has no badges lol, made me hard in the pants ha HA!
I wont be getting rid of mine in a while. Has so much potential to make something that hasnt been done before!

you gotta be joking my boot cant fit anything in it, admitedly it has a sub in there but that only takes up like 1/4 of the roomsilverGPX wrote:

in my car i can only just fit all my music gear if i want to go jam with a friend or if im playing somewhere
when i have all this in there i cant fit anyone in my car as it takes up the entire cabin and barely any of it will fit in the boot
same with my hockey bag though because im a goalie i have to carry a massive bag full of pads with me around, wont fit in the boot so i have to take up the whole backseat with it
a mazda 121 has actually has more room in it, you can fit a surfboard in a 121 but not an fto
and all thats when my cars clean
being the disgustingly lazy slob i am there is always so much rubbish in my car and clothes and uni sh*t scattered around everywhere making it an even tighter fit
so pretty much at all times i can fit a maximum of 1 person in my car
The attention is awesome, i work at a servo and i get a lot of people asking what it is etc even had a group of people walking around it wondering what it is cos it has no badges lol, made me hard in the pants ha HA!
same, im keeping mine atleast till im out of unisilverGPX wrote:I wont be getting rid of mine in a while. Has so much potential to make something that hasnt been done before!
though im considering buying a second car if i can save up the money to have a luggage sorta car

Re: FTO
I used to have a mazda 121, f**k i miss that car, used to do MASSIVE trips in it, it never stopped going. Did 50,000kms in one year that i owned it went everywhere, i want to buy it back again, it could fit 5 ppl in it as well and more comfortably than the FTO.
And yeah i guess for really large items the FTO is impractical, like my esky
Dont find it too bad for going away in still can fit bags etc in.
Lastly i wouldnt mind another car, i hate putting km's on the FTO cos by the time u have saved to do all the mods its up around 160,000kms mines already up to 140,000 and i bought it at 118,000.

Re: FTO
Lol so mean, but im talking about the other 121, which the WA Ford Festiva and Kia Pride are based on. Its an older model like 91. Here is what i wanted to do to mine, autocross style.

You can put a 1.8litre turbo engine (bp) out of a laser tx3 or mazda mx 5 in them and there is so much aftermarket suspension gear. Always wanted to get one with big fat tyres and just rape the sh*t out of skyl.i.nes haha

Re: FTO
Car's as good as its driver.
That being said, that better driver can do more with a more powerful car.
But unless you're on a track or ze Autobarn, then WTF do you need 1000hp for?
FTO is a fun car and does the job of being a sporty compact which is all it was set out to be.

Re: FTO
my boot was filled up with the subs and other stuff and i easily fit 18 shopping bags just stacked up on the rear seats not even using the floor, (i did get hit in the head a few times while driving but admittedly that was because i was giving the car a fair bit of juice)
the fto is a great all round sports car and when i say sports car i dont mean like celica's and stuff. pretty much any car thats imported is technologically advanced otherwise there would be no demand for the cars. you dont see jappenese importing holden crumbadoors do ya? lol
fwd is awesome because u loose less power through drivetrain which also means better fuel consumption the only bad thing is ya gotta be carefull in the wet sometimes i even leave tcs on if i wanna take some corners fast.
FTO is my 3rd car ive owned and ive driven at least 8 different cars and nothing comes close, oh yeah how well thought is the interior

Re: FTO
Back home i owned a nissan pulsar gti-r (she was a 1990 model, sr20det engine), last dyno was a 342.8bhp, with standard internals and a new ball bearing gt28.
Was stripped down - so no air con, back seats, racing front seats, no heater matrix, fibre glass tailgate and polycarbonate windows.
It was prob one of the best cars ive ever driven, the sheer launch capacity was immense, and not many cars can keep up with it. I couldn't bring it here beacuse it would have cost me about 10k to ship it and pay taxes on it. So it got left with the missus' dad.

I love my fto, but i just wish sometomes that Oz didn't have such strict speeding laws. I would have lost my license within a week in the pulsar.

Re: FTO
didnit the laser tx3's have 1.6l motors in em? i had a ford capri turbo and it was a 1.6 which waas the same as a tx3 laser (1990 or so). the guy i brought it off told me it put out 120kw at the front wheels when he took it to the dyno, perfomancewise it had a stinger 4424 ems, pod filter(k &N i think), turbosmart BOV, Turbosmart dual boost controller, 2 and a half" mandrel bent exhaust with a cannon on the back and think it had a different cam in it. stock standard the turbo capri motor that was in some tx3's put out 100kw at the motor(75kw for the NA ones).
id never buy anything smaller than a 2litre again though

Yeah they had a b6 and sometimes a b6t, they go easier into the 121 as a b6 is only a bored out version of a b3, well that is for the older model, the later b6/t had twin cam.
But the bp/t or 1.8l is in a bit later laser like the 93 model and shares the same as an mx5. There is even a 4wd one but would be a bit hard to put into the 121 lol.

Re: FTO
Pros:
Can be nice and zippy
Looks nice
Grabs attention from a lot of people
Rarer than other Japanese cars
Cons:
Quite a few cheap parts used in it
Small interior
Some angles it doesn't look nice
Overall a nice car, should substitute until I can drive an Evo
