RETRIMMED SEATS ON EBAY under $600 advice please?

Post by brent88 »

Hey im looking at getting my seats retrimmed but buying a kit off ebay or something after looking at 2 websites the ones u fit yourself look good (in their pics at least)

dont wanna get some glorified seat cover.... is this what i would b buying?

anywhere anyone can suggest to buy good qual at lowish price? would want 2 tone dark red with seperate headrest maybe fto logo front and rear seats, and would pay extra for better leather.... italian leather????? avation grade leather????

any constructive advice or links would be helpfull:

speaking of links
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LEATHER-SEAT-COV ... 3cab9ced86

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/LEATHER-MAGNA-CJ ... 4cef5b7b6a

second link sounds better and has better rating but is dearer taking into account for 4 seats

thanks in advance

with those, anyone know a good place that puts them on for you and puts some foam back in the worn areas such as where you grab to getout etc?

Don't feel like doing them yourself?

They are a bitch. We've done mutiple group buys on them over the years, end up doing them at DIY days together.
Most of the time we use rags or similar to repack worn foam areas like the drivers seat bolsters. Works quite well.

eh.. But you know there is rags under there..

Lol i have a foam bed matress sitting in the shed maybe i can rip some of that off. Dunno what id glue it in with though.

Maybe im better off with a set of race seats, i just hate how the fto's are faded.

They sit beautifully are a great buy. I dont own them myself but have thought about it many times. The only reason I havent is want a tight fitting seat that only racing seats will give but if your not worried about that, then I highly recommend them.

I have seen them on a lot of cars including bens and there is no way you could tell that there are rags underneath.

If you were going to glue some foam in there I would use either a PVA glus from bunnings or a glue gun.

Go to Clark rubber for the glue.. There's a special type for gluing foam together I've got a set of the seat covers and they're awesome.. Bit of a bitch to fit though, but make sure you have plenty of zip ties

Couple of pics of mine over the years. I say years because they have been on now for almost 5 years. They actually tighten up & look better over time.

No signs of wear yet either (apart from a couple of ciggie burns )

ben, did you put your seat covers on over the old seat covers or did you strip the old ones off first?

You have to strip the old covers off before putting these on.

Here's a complete pictorial DIY on how they're done here:
http://www.ftoaustralia.com/downloads/L ... 0guide.zip

It is cheap stuff ("leatherette"), but its very very good stuff. It is supposedly good enough to outlast leather.
As you can see, the top pic is a recent one, no wear at all after 5 years. I recommend his products.

Max actually started his business out right here on this forum, he ran the very first group buys.
The product was so successful, he quit his day job as a Project Manager & started importing
the covers full time. He branched into other makes & models, then eventually going into
marine & aircraft.

Is it a full time job for him? (I say this as I shot him an email at the start of the week and have not received a reply) or is backlog just that long?

yea samne here fto84 ill. try an ebay mesage as their advertised there.

good tutorial it looks involved and fiddly but i bet its 1 of them things where its all worth it when u finish it succesfully and everytime u sit iin it. for my car (imperial red) was thinking black around the edges and imperial red in centre, what does everyone reckon?

maybe a group buy even if it is a small group. im pretty interested

got a tutorial for back seats?

I remembered doing my first seat it looked like crap! Your best off doing the base of the bottom seat first as its easier to learn how to put them on right.

You have to make sure the rods in the covers are as light as possible to the bars on the cushion.

I got mine with the previous group buy about 3-5 years ago I can't remember. They are still the same with no wear. The only thing thats gone sh*tty is the rear back rest near the top the sticking has faded and its sort of a dark red colour.
