Replacing the alternator and all the joy that comes with it!
Hey, has anyone replaced their alternator on their fto themselfs? just wondering how long it took everyone else, took me 2 and a half hours but i looked at a few guides, i hear theres 2 ways to do it 1 by removing the inlet manifold etc or the way i did it http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_re ... mivec_auto theres a link to 1 of the guides i used but 1 of em told me i had to remove 1 of the cv driveshafts fk that lol
cost me $220 from a wrecker for a secondhand non reconditioned one. because of the mivec plug auto elec couldent give me a deffinate awnser on wether it was the rectifier pr not (turns out it was) got quoted 3 diff prices for 3 different brand new ones $420, $480 $960 bursons and repco

I did it last night.
- crack the crown nut on the wheel,
- undo the 3 bolts on the lower control arm
- remove driveshaft from hub
- alternator fits through hole.
Not sure if this is what the guide said (CBF looking im afraid). In my case, didnt have a set of axel stands handy (already being used for something else), so didnt want to go under the car.

seems like a faster way then my way shite u make it seem easy lol, i took out alternator bolts, took out engine mount bolt on driver s side, removed the 2 bolts that hold the hub to the springs, and very carefully jacked the motor up from the sump with a bit of wood so i didnt hurt my sump. motor was nearly touching fans (within milimeters). it may have been a btit harderbut i didnt loose any trans fluid.... i suppose u can get a cap to whack in the driveshaft hole but your still gonna loose some right?

You are asking a guy that can strip a motor in a couple of hours.. Maybe even less...

I remove alt and its bracket seperatly drop R/F strut and will then fit out of side (tight squeeze but it works)

I remove strut competely but would be possible to just drop it slightly via undoing the 3x top strut tower bolts

This, you will need to push down on the disc but it will come out easily
