Power steering pump/ rack

Post by Astron_Boy »

I'm more inclined to say it's the rack, however

Is it possible for the power steering pump to make a loud whirring noise when you turn the car left, and not right.

Some of you know of my odd noise that the cars developed over time.
Replaced nearly th entire front end now.

Only things left I can think of are
power steering pump
power steering rack
Diff (god i hope not)

so yeah, would a pump make a noise one way and not the other?

Sort of... I had the groaning, then I had the wads of PS fluid on the driveway after the drivers side seal blew.

For you, does it make the noise when turning and you're stationary?

If so, have you tried bleeding the system? Traditionally groaning means air in the system.

no it doesnt, only when in drive.
Worse when the cars going up a hill.
It will do it in a straight line as well, but there could be a bit of play in the steering causing that sound.

I honestly hope it isnt the diff, but the trans fluid color is fine... which tells me it's not the diff.... though that's not hard evidence.

Whatever you do, don't try & change the rack yourself. 10 hours it took me on my back in the driveway :?
