10 page thread incoming; just don't scare *this* one away please guys

The FTO will definitely tick all of your boxes; once you have one you realise there isn't really anything else that compares apart from a Series 6+ RX7 which really isn't an option because of reliability issues.

FTO good points are that it is nimble, quick (to a point) and very good looking, etc etc.

Before getting one though ensure you read the various "what to look for" threads here with regards to what can be wrong with a second hand FTO. Simple things though like Power Window problems, AC not working and central locking not working are cheap easy fixes and you can use them to drive the price down.

Things like roof rust are a real money drainer and not worth the hassle if you can't at least do *some* of the work yourself (or have people who can help you for free/cheaply).

Best place to look for one is on this very site; check out the For Sale section. Any here will be well known and everyone is pretty trustworthy (apart from that damn Bennoz, he is a shifty bastard who likes to pull all sorts of shenanigans).

Anyways, WTTC, stick around (if they don't scare you away first)...

Yeah they do have a whole lot of power, I have driven Brent88's FTO before, and it was sooooo much fun to drive :D
Better than my BMW that's for sure.

Anyways guys time to go rack another 300km up on my car, I'm off to uni.

im going to go with her to look at fto's when she finds some she wants to look at and ive read up heaps about them and own 1 so she should b right.

she is still tossing up between an pre facelife fto gpx and a 02-04 lancer vrx but there around 10 grand for an average example provate sale and their not very sporty i mean they are 17cms higher than the fto, have 4 doors and the same size motor and only puts out 93kw probably mainly because of the cams and not having mivec coz they both are 24valve 2 litre engine and the lancer only has a 5%lower compression ratio

it will come down to the colour of the car you watch lol if you can pick up a facelift your better off as they changed the glue in the roof at about that time witch means less likely it will rust also a lot sexyer looking

I would take an FTO over a lancer any day .. The VRX's were not too crash hot.. They lacked guts... I was in the same category .. Was looking for a car that me and the Mrs could both drive... Was think 2 door lancer, FTO, or a mirage ... This was also when I had a spare 4G63 engine, and was thinking of putting that into the mirage and converting to AWD ...

As an alternative to a Mirage .. Try the Proton Satria GTI ... Nice sporty looking car, with the Mitsubishi 4G93 engine, and stock Recaro Seats...

But even out of the Proton and the FTO .. I would still pick the FTO ...
I just had to add it ......

Some advices from my exp.
Allow some spare cash on top of your budget as you don't wanna buy a car but found out not enough $$ to maintain/fix it when somethings broken down.
It's a 15yrs old car so expect to spend more on the latter days unless previous owner got it all done up.

Ones with roof rust costs bout 1k to fix.
A/C could cost a bit to fix depending on what's the culprit.
Mine got leaks on evaporator. (refill + dye test + replace evaporator, hours of labor + refill again = easily cost >600)

The version R looks good on the surface. Owner going overseas would be a good reason for the price to be a bit down too. 98 model wont have the rust problems either. Well and truely worth a look!

    Hi guys
Brenton-Thanks I got the link to that FTO it looks sooo nice, so I messaged the guy, no reply yet.
Well at the moment my hunk of junk BMW is on the side of the highway because it died----again! I only got the car back from the mechanics on Wednesday and it's dead...again! Won't start, and before you ask, it has fuel in it :P and it was in P when I went to start it. Stupid POS literally went from 115 down to 80 and I had to coast it down a huge hill in N (it stalled on me) with a truck up my bum. so as for my last post it didn't even make it the whole 300kms

It's not always about the colour, but a purple one would be awesome :D
Not going anywhere just yet guys :P I might even set up an avatar and make myself comfortable.

everyone else- thanks for the comments :D The advice is great, and should def help in finding a new car

    Ciao

I saw this awesome orange/red one with a black bonnet and black roof the other day, but was gone before I had a chance to phone about it. I find the silver ones to be a little boring, <3 colours. A friend of mine thought that Brent88's FTO was a dark magenta (dark Pink)but it's imperial red, although it looked awesome after it was buffed up.
