sporty - Yes - in looks & driveability
bit of power - YES!
doesn't use too much fuel - Decent
reliable - if well looked after, yes
fun to drive - HELL YES!
has lots of features - Climate Control Air Con, Power Windows, ABS (Some models), LSD (Some models), Tiptronic Auto Transmission, Air bags (some Models), Power steering, 6 stacker CD Player

I'd go a GPX, can't beat the scream of the Mivec IMO, wouldn't go for one less than $10k - usually a few things wrong with them..

If you get one under 100,000km then it may not have had it's major service done yet .. this will cost you between $1500 - $2000 to get done, so if you can get one that has just over 100k on the clock you may find that it's another expense you won't have to fork out for ;) lower km is not always better

btw welcome to the club .. and where are you from? might be able to point you in the direction of one for sale ..

The FTO is pretty much the perfect sports car at around the 10k price tag. It's also more of a chicks car so it will suit you :)

Hi,
thanks for the advice guys
i want 1 for under 8k with a roadworthy but have a car in the meantime (94 bmw 318i) but dont mind if the paintwork isnt a1 or it has some rust bubbles etc thats to be expected for a car this age. anyway the amount of kms i drive the car wont last more than 10 years if im lucky anyway.

my friend who is on here (brent88) brought his fto gpx for $7,100 with a roadworthy with 120kms on the clock (not with all the mods he has done now)

so if ya know what ya looking at i reckon theres good buys to be had,

anywayz im from bendigo (an hour and a half from melb) so any tips on cheap cars for me would b tops

i dont think its a chicks car because of the power and engine noise i would think of someones mums dihatsu charade 3cylinder or a 1.5l lancer as a chicks car.

Hmm I'm in Melbourne selling my FTO for around the 6k mark if you're interested (got a few buyers looking into it at the moment)

Have a look at the "Cars For Sale" section

A little out of your price range but worth a look and worth the extra cash... If you skimp on getting a cheap one now, you'll pay for it later.

More of a chicks car i find that offensive

Chantalle imo an fto for 8k is asking for trouble, parts are abit hard to come by and there are expensive too however if you can afford to maintain it and insure it than go for it you wont regret it :D

hey chantalle i see your doing your reasearch, yea u can get fto's cheap that arnt too fked but there few and far between and maybe have to put with a few little things wrong with the car, maybe my car was a good find he had 7.5 on it i got him down to 7.1 heres some stats of when i brought it

120,000 kms on clock
standard wheels
standard interior except it has a carbon fibre stereo surround
did have the standard body on it
crappy sound sys
timing belt done at 100,000 kms (have checked)
4 tyres all under 200kms old saw receipts

but..... car had been classed as a 'repairable write off' but i couldent find where it had been dinged (dosent take much to exceed the value of the car) theres some extra welding behind the carpet in the boot but its had a real good job done on it

all up for 7.1 i think i did pretty excelent have only had to replace the alternator in 7 months

good luck just do ya research and allow upto 8k and u should get a decent condition standard gpx maybe with some mags and a rw

the best fto's for sale dont last long enough for people to be able to gauge the prices , the ones u c for sale on the net have been there a while

heres 1 that lasted under 2 days on carsales(i rang it up 4 u but the car has been sold)

http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/pri ... 6A2719FB62

veilside wing, side skirts, and rear bar, RW, sexy mags, lovley blue colour, and only 128,000 kms for a 95

ud have 2 expect theres b somethings he didnt disclose but still if thats what i can find in a week imagine the possibilities

the trick to buy an FTO or even any car, is to bring someone who can check the condition for you, or pay for nrma check. then u decide from there. This is very critical as it is not a new car, somemore its a sportscar and it tends to get trashed around. dont be fooled by its good looks, its health is more important and like anycars, it can come back to haunt your wallet if it gets unhealthy.
and please get a GPX and nothing less. :)

^^^^^^ This.

First of WTTC. If I was you, i would wait a little longer and just save that little bit extra! Pay a little bit more for an FTO and you will be set.
I have ignored this before, not just once, but twice. And both times it has come back at me with nasty needs of repairs.

AJ's car here has probably one of the best looked after FTO's around! Not that I'm trying to sell it for him, Its just a great deal.

Just my 2c. Hopefully you find a nice FTO and stick around in the club.

WOW, look how many replies..... I wonder why that is lol

I'm sure I'll stick around longer than a week you guys all seem so nice.

Yeah they do have a whole lot of power, I have driven Brent88's FTO before, and it was sooooo much fun to drive :D
Better than my BMW that's for sure.

Anyways guys time to go rack another 300km up on my car, I'm off to uni.
ciao
