Mitsubishi admits to covering up car defects

Post by Breza »

"Mitsubishi admits to covering up car defects

Struggling Japanese carmaker Mitsubishi has been hit with a fresh scandal, with the company admitting to covering up defects in more than 100,000 vehicles.

In a late-night media conference, Mitsubishi admitted that it had covered up 92 different types of defects during the last decade.

More than 150,000 vehicles will now be recalled.

Mitsubishi says it does not yet know if any of the vehicles were exported to Australia.

The company says it wants to "deeply apologise" for damaging the trust of consumers and society.

It is the latest blow to the carmaker's reputation.

Earlier this year, Mitsubishi's truck-making affiliate acknowledged it had covered up defects that had led to crashes - some of them fatal."

Hmmmm.........Noisy Suspension, Rattling Windows, Faulty Central Locking, Leaking Cam Seals, Bad Front Brakes etc etc etc................

Could be worse, could own a Subaru. :-P

Cheers

Central locking is one of the FTO's problem, but i don't think it can cause an accident.

Sorry if there was some misunderstanding, that part of my original post was not meant to be taken seriously. :-)

Hehe, I’ll add that to my questions.

I know myself that recalls are a very expensive exercise. It was not too long ago, that Mercedes had to recall all of there $10,000 computer screens out of the 2003 E class.
Which adds up to a lot when you have to replace and install it to a customers car free of charge.

The Mitsubishi truck section is where most of this scams went on. In fact not long ago a person was killed when a wheel came flying off a Mitsubishi commercial vehicle due to a fault in manufacturing.

As for the FTO Mitsubishi only would have had to inform the owner in Japan of any such recalls as once it has left the country it was officially released in it is not there problem. So it might be worth asking for safety’s sake if there were any major recalls on the FTO.
