tiptronic

Post by brad_gpx »

hey im just curious because i drive a manual and rarely drive a car with tiptronic in it

what exactly are the benefits of putting your car into tiptronic?

when you put your foot down doesnt the transmission of most cars already shift down gears to give you power?
are there any major performance gains from driving the car in tip mode?
where would these gains be seen? on a drag strip or on a full race course?

Think about it.

Power still remains same but you have complete control of when to shift or down shift not just when you put your foot down so you can be on the power at all times

I wouldn't say complete control.
Sometimes the downshift can be a prick, but otherwise, yes as said above.

When you turn slow corners then put your foot down the gear box can really piss about, not knowing what gear it wants to be in so it can get a bit boy racerish at times. The worst is when it decides you are going really slow and sticks it in first, then changes back to second almost immediatly. With tip you just stick in in second and leave it there until you want it to change up.

Thats where steering wheel controls come in really handy as you find yourself driving it tip all the time just because you have so much more control.

Ild like to also point out you don't have full control , a tip will auto shift up if you redline and it thinks you wil blow the engine .unlike manual where you will blow the engine if you don't change ,

Was downshift to 1st by itself if you come to a complete stop at the lights.

As I have raced my car (drag strip) a few times with the tip box I can safely say that the biggest reason to use it in Tip is consistency. My best runs pre piping mods were three 13.85's all one after the other.

As for autos in general; there is a reason the top drag cars use them, consistency.
