jumpy on idle, voltage fluctuates, wheel guard floppy, TC

Post by phunkydude »

Hi everyone. I got couples of questions to ask around / to troubleshoot some problems.

1) my car seems to be 'jumpy'/shaking when it's idling , eg. stops a traffic lights.
2) my voltages meter fluctuates a lot (happens when my car is 'jumpy')
3) the front inner wheel guards on both sides seem to flop around with only the top being fixed by screws and the bottom end left loose. (is it normal?)
4) the fto manual guide shows the switch bay beside the mirror control as the traction control switch. But somehow mine is a knob. I tried turning it and nothing seems to happen? Is it a stock setup? (refer pic. below)

Thanks everyone for the help. :)

ok 1 & 2 sound like stepper motor
3. No not normal you will need some new plastic screws to reatatch the gards back up.
4. Looks to be the dimmer switch for the dash lights.

Pic is dimmer or a amp volume control I don't have them buttons as I don't have traction control also if its shakey couldn't be engine mounts as the steper motor only drops and raises revs mine never shook volts drop um don't no battery wires alt could be many things

First of all, I'd go about ignoring anything bduffman posts in both this thread and any others.

Second, pay attention to what Aza is saying. When my stepper motor was faulty, the revs would fluctuate so drastically that the engine would frequently come very close to stalling, hence the shaking and shuddering you might be feeling. The voltage dropped on the dash gauge as well, which I assume would be linked to the revs dropping and the alternator belt spinning slower, therefore not providing as much charge to the battery.

well your all running sh*t batterys cause mine never droped and my stepper motor was fucked and it never shook my car not even when it got so low it stalled

also like to point out that not once in his post did he say his idle is droping just that his car is jumpy and shakes at idle

So, by that logic, we should always compare all problems to yours? Wow, thats cool, I was getting real tired from trying to help diagnose everyones problems Image

my rpm doesn't seems to fluctuate.
went to mechanic to have a check, the rpm seems normal to him (response to A/C, startup rpm, idler)
checked the battery w/ digital voltmeter, 14+v (no drops w/ lights on-off) , so the dash's voltmeter is a joke?
he said it could be the valves enter too early caused the engine to shake (valve adjusted weeks ago).
he cleaned the throttle body and report back to him if it still happens.

what concerns me is the dash's voltmeter sometimes fluctuates & showing <12v , around 8/9v
afraid it'll conk out in the middle of the road.

Did you checked the alternator? My car had the problem when I first got it. Fixed after I replaced the alternator though.

Just my 2c, before i got my broken engine mount fixed, my car was "rocking/shaking" when idling, now it's fixed, and it's not doing it anymore. with that said, I also got the 100K service done at the same time. so... it could be the timing belt, sparkies, water pump, fuel pump and lack of water in the wiper reservoir as well lol
but i'd suggest checking the engine mounts.

feel free to correct me if I'm wrong guys :)
