What petrol do you use for your FTO?
Hi guys, just wondering which petrol you pump and if there's any difference in the performance and economy.
I'm currently using Caltex 98 for the woolies discount.

I use bp ultimate 98 octane and my car runs awesome on this stuff and it gets around 560 km to a tank 70%city 30%highway but occasionally i might put 95 octane fuel in it and i do notice a slight decrease in performance and economy. They actually need 100 octane fuel but you cant get this fuel in this country,or you can just use an octane booster
but its not really neccesary unless if you want better performance and economy.

I use 99 over here in Scotland and I reckon that it gives more miles per gallon and so works out about the same as putting regular 95 in.
The only problem is that even 95 is about six quid a gallon, thats 10 Australian dollars.

I quite like Caltex vortex98, performance is best with it, bp ultimate is also good and I find it gives me around 20-30kms more per tank than others. According to an article in an old thread, a study was carried out on various petrol brands on a wrx sti and found vortex98 yielded slightly higher power figures when tested on the same car, on the same day, in the same conditions, etc. Nothing we would majorly notice in real life use though. BP ultimate also performed quite well but seems to get you further per tank. Good quality fuel seems to lie amongst both of these brands.
Personally never use 95 octane on the fto.

Now don"t quote me on this but I recon that the fuel you get from the suppermarkets petrol stations seems like it's been diluted down a bit.crimson236 wrote:Hi guys, just wondering which petrol you pump and if there's any difference in the performance and economy.

going fast doesn't kill you, it's the sudden stop that does.

The guy who sold me my car told me to run it off regular unleaded.
So premium is the way to go?

You should always use premium. Remember, these cars were designed for the Jap domestic market only, aka - tuned to Jap fuel.... and our Premium is Japans regular.
We have the shittest fuel on the planet in Australia.

Just as well this was posted or I would have continued using regular unleaded.Bennoz wrote:You should always use premium. Remember, these cars were designed for the Jap domestic market only, aka - tuned to Jap fuel.... and our Premium is Japans regular.

What type of damage would be caused by using regular fuel?
The guy had it 18 months before he sold it to me so I'm guessing the dickhead had done so for the entire time.

The damage that can be done is usually in the head. Prolonged 'pinging' can burn valves & damage head gaskets.
Having said that, I don't want to instill fear into your heart. If its running fine now, then chances are it is fine

You can never be too fearful with an FTO.
If it can go wrong, chances are it will go wrong

i prefer bp ultimate and mobil 8000 , bp being first choice, although mobil isnt far behind at all.
I tried shell once, after the bonfire, close to an empty tank, filled up, then when i ignited the car, it was like it nearly stalled but picked it up again ... dunno if it was my starter motor but it only happend after i filled up on the shell optimax 98.

And people wonder why they always have "bad luck" with their cars.
