Collapsed Lifter??? - Advise Needed!!!

Post by mrx »

Got the car back today from mechanics. Lowered (50mm front, 40mm rear) and service, and they were going to adjust the tappets for me as there was a really loud lappet sound after the cam seals had been replaced. They told me that there was a collpased lifter.

Is this likely to be the case, or is it just that they have not done this before on an FTO? How loud can the tappets get? Is it a major issue that I have to get fixed immediately? Multistate cruise only a few days away, so will not be able to get it done, but do not want to break down or do damage to the engine.

The cost is not an issue, as it will be another warrenty job. But will it be safe to drive all that way (from Newcastle) if that is the case. Seems to run OK, just very loud tapping sound (ie, can hear above the engine at all speeds).

Please advise!

its more likely that the tappets are out of wack from the engine being in bits to fix the sandwich plates (cam seals).

are they able to document what they did....

have they ever seen a mivec engine before????

give me a buzz and i'll see what else i can help you with

LOL!
I like yr comment Steve on if they've ever seen a Mivec engine :D

When i call up places asking for parts for the FTO , they ask me in such an enquisitive way what an FTO is !! and if they have even heard about it , they usually say ' are those one of those cars with the MYVEK engine in em?' LOL
