Replacing fuel filter

hey guys

Can i get some help on replacing a fuel filter?
What do i do? and what steps do i take?

its easy the filter is located on the firewall, just below the throttle body, you should see it.

From what i remember, taking out the battery helped a lot as its in a really bad location.

Undo bolts on top and bottom of filter and replace.

I just broke my Fuel Line trying to get the Fuel filter out...

WARNING

###use two wrenchs to get the fuel filter off the bottom Fuel line. Make sure you twist the Fuel filter and not the Fuel line. ####

My fuel filter was so tight that when i was loosening the Fuel filter off the fuel line, the fuel line twisted and broke off.

I have got the mit parts program and the filter filter is definitely under the backseat!

Both the fuel filter and fuel pump filter are under the backseat...

the pic shows both in the same location near to each other...

this is same throughout the entire FTO model range

simple/want to know questions

1. how often should the fuel filter and fuel pump filter be changed?
2. what are the benefits? better fuel economy?etc.
3. is it just the filters that are changed or are there other things needed?

Erm...is this filter an auxillary one?

Meaning...an extra one to supplement the stock one in the backseat?

The Mit Parts program lists all FTO models as having the same fuel filter and all are located under the back seat.

every fuel system has two filters, one is at the pickup (in the engine tank)
the second is an inline filter in the engine bay.. .the second is a much finer filter to ensure that nothing goes into your injectors

Erm..so y doesn't anyone chg the backseat fuel filter? hmm...
This is the 2nd time i am chging it and now getting the fuel pump filter chged as well...

I cant find anything that says fuel filter in the Mit parts prog that says it is in the engine bay...

does anyone have a mit part number and the correct name for dat? please?

I downloaded it with permission from a US based Mit GTO/3000GT forum.

I cant recall the site now thou, but i am sure someone else has the link.

They are pretty nice people.

But the files are HUGE, thats y they no not wish to have a sh*t load of downloads jamming their servers.

I'll try and recall soon, for everyone's benefit.

Its a pain to use at 1st, but once u get e hang of it, its brilliant!

LAL, if you want to know service interval information just look in the "FTO Information" link (second from the top on the left hand menu)

As with any filter, overcome it will begin to clog and it's efficiency will lessen. As per the info in the "FTO Information" link this filter should be replaced every 100K.

You're not going to get any better fuel economy, more than anything this is just preventative maintenance (i.e. replace it before it becomes too blocked).
