I've spent close to 80 grand on mine over the years.... lost count on how many alternators / starters / steppers / gear linkage cables / AC compressors & condensors / Engine transplants / brake pads/ nitrous refills / seat covers / tyres I've gone thru...
Heh, and whats your income vs mine again? I think your forgetting that I'm 18 working Parttime at Coles T_T. $12 p/h FTL. I get $360 a week, 100 goes to my account which I don't have access too.
Thats $260 a week x 52 weeks a year, 13grand. Then you take drinks out of that and its like 10 grand.
Hmm... Might work about even, right? Lol
I was just answering his question about what went wrong with my last car

I have had the FTO for three years now and going very strong.
Yeah and you didnt have to pay for the new engine
Yeah no drama's at all for me either. I totally agree with dwayne comments. You get what you pay for
Agreed, only issues I have had on this one are diff and axles, but I was told that at the start, and I kind of expected it too lol.
My first one (GPX) had no issues whatsoever, but I did buy that from Mitsubishi fresh from Japan; miss it actually, sunroof, TCL, ABS, red LED's on doors when open... all that nice stuff /sigh
want to ask what to look out for when buying the engine from auto wreckers? Like what kind of warranty do i have? how do i check if theres anything wrong in the engine?
i got quote for $1450 for a mivec one....

Thats price might be ok with a gearbox, but seems way too much for an engine on its own, what kind of km does it have?
Get it compression tested and is a new timing belt waterpump, tensioners, cam seals included. Its a good price with installation but with unkown kms sounds real dodgy
Personally I would be buying the cheapest one I could find (that has been compression tested and leakdown tested, regardless of kms. Then spend another $600-$1000 on seals timning belt etc. Now you have a sweet engine.

but you have to buy the engine 1st before do the compression test right? from all wreckers i inquired from does not do compression test. As long as they fire up, its deemed to be in working condition.
Also, i need an engine stand for the old egine which is replaced. Any idea how to get a cheap one? does engine stand work for most engine or u need special bracket?

+1 totally agree, Kms are not really the big issue as long as compression is there and you give it a major service you should have no issues
As for stand why do you need one? and can get them from supercheap etc bout $200, just sit the motor on a bench or old tyre on the ground etc
thats whats been discussed before, to buy a 2nd hand engine or recondition it. probably cost around the same. and if thats the case, getting another engine is worth while as you get more parts for the money.

I WOULD NEVER BUY A MOTOR WITHOUT COMPRESSION TESTING IT. Unless I was already planing on rebuilding it or it was ridicoulous cheap.

very true, once you buy it and find out that its failed the compression test your back at square one with another useless engine.
