Loud screeching noises

Post by nikhan »

Ok..this doesnt happen very often but not its become more freq like prob once a couple of weeks or so.

I turn on the ignition but the car doesnt start. I pump the accelerator abit and then turm pn the ignition again. Car starts but in a stuttering manner and suddenly outta nowhere, there is this really loud screeching noise(like a car going fast on a cement floor car park...only higher pitch) for about 5 seconds before all goes well. There also had been a couple of times when I start the car it starts normally but then immediately the screeching cames back for a bit. I notince this happens on a cold day more often the warm ones. I have some idea it might be from the timing belt or aircon belt area but not sure what is causing this to happen. Any help guys?? Oh and one more thing, timing belt has been done 40,000kms ago with the aircon belt and all...getting me a tad bit worried now.

That'll be cooked belts. Alt & PS/AC. 40,000kms is well & truly past their used by date. You should be doing them every 10-15k.

The failing to start first go is unrelated to the screech. It could be a number of things. Such as plugs or 02 sensor. Have you checked the error codes?

Totally disagree Belts should last way longer than 15000km. 40,000km is about right.

Agreed or starter motor which is very common

Well I've just changed my plugs and O2 sensor not too long ago. Prob mid last year if I could remember. Most of the time the screeching happens when my car fails to start at the first try. And whenever I turn my ac on the sound comes back. Lolz...back to the mechs. Just in time because I need to do my service. Hehe. I'll update again if anything else (hopefully not) turns up. Thanks again guys

Just try adjusting the tension on the belts. They could be too loose or too tight.
