stimilus package was bullshit
also computers is a dumb idea, i rarely ever used a computer during school. when we were meant to be using them during class everyone just played games. i cant think of 1 constructive computer lesson id been to.
[[[i heard from a friends mum that supposedly they brought it in because they believe if you dont familiarizer yourself with a computer by the time your in yr 9 then you will be computer illiterate for life, however they are giving kids the computers when they reach yr 9?(not sure on exact year)]]] *i heard this from a friends mum, not to sure on how reliable this is
also if this is true how come when computers first came out it wasnt very hard for people to adapt to them? wouldnt this mean that people who havent grown up around computers would currently be illiterate?
i have a granddad who's 70-80 who can use a computer quite successfully
with the laptops forced into schools teachers are now being forced to stretch there budget even further to get sufficient teaching resources and also many of the teachers are not comfortable using computers
also in some schools there are not enough laptops for the entire grade meaning a fair few kids miss out while everyone else gets one.
i suppose the computers are also there to provide a computer for kids who cant get access to one
why cant they get a part time job save up 100-200 and buy one?
also how much is the upkeep of these computers going to cost the government?
anyway there my angry rants about rudd
i just liked howard he seemed to be more reliable
he never did anything crazily out there like rudd does
however i dont know if this statement is true because i dont know much about politics

Howard looked like a koala with out of control eyebrows and was a Bush administration brown noser
Rudd is bit more free thinking but still a knob
The next one will be the same
Basically no matter who is in power they are all idiots that will manage to please some but not everyone, more effect actually comes from state govt but even then they are still all idiots like a bunch of bickering primary school kids (or forum members for that matter
)

Sorry Brad, but I think it's kinda funny that you're basing all of this hatred towards the Rudd government on one tiny little aspect of their overall impact on Australia over the past few years.
What about the ETS, or the insulation scheme, or the youth allowance changes that didn't come into effect, leaving many Uni students without income support at the start of the year, or even the recent issues with asylum seekers? What are your opinions on that?
Or is all of that stuff way over your head? I guess I can see how it would be much easier just to assert your "friend's mum's" opinion, rather than come up with your own. That would involve some level of intelligence and free thinking, god forbid...
I guess my main point is that it's certainly not like Australia has gone backwards at the hands of the Rudd Government. No, I think our society has taken care of that pretty well all by ourselves... (take for example the senseless behaviour of those people in that riot down in Melbourne that left an innocent Bob Jane T-mart store with $50 000 worth of damage).
Ok, I've gone off on a tangent. Woops.
Back on track, I'm not really either for or against the Rudd Government. As vip said, they are all really the same. I just don't like it when people assert biased opinions on such important topics that they really aren't informed about...

i love a good debate
so lets continue this
the friends mum was just something that she said the government did, it wasnt her opinion it was something she supposely heard
im not up to date with a lot of politics so i really only base my hatred on stuff that affects me
insulation doesnt affect me
im not an asylum seeker so i dont care about that either
youth allowance is bullshit
i do not recieve money from my parents, i recieve shelter, food, but nothing over the top, nothing that any normal family wouldnt provide for there children
i do not recieve youth allowance
however most of my mates whilst recieving shelter, food, etc, everything that i recieve also recieve money from the government to attend uni?
how is this fair?
why should i not get money based on what my parents earn?
its a complete joke imo
so lets continue this

"Yeah, my folks earn bugger all"
"Ta, cheers for the cheque"
Why is that so hard to understand?
but my parents dont provide for me anymore than any other family would for there children
i still pay for everything myself apart from food
my friends who recieve the youth allowance still have there parents pay for there food
imo youth allowance should not be tested by your parents wage
i dont know anyone who doesnt recieve youth allowance whos parents give them a substantial ammount of money every week

the system works well enough, it has stringent regulations to ensure resources (ie money) is spent where its most worthwhile, if that means providing some income to a poor uni student from a low income background to ensure they get through their studies and into a decent paying job where they pay back the country through tax, then so be it. Thats one of the reasons that Australia is the best country in the world and ahead of many other first world countries, some of which still dont have proper free healthcare *cough* *cough* america *cough*....brad_gpx wrote:Bennoz wrote:Because some fuckwit(s) have exploited that loophole well before your time.brad_gpx wrote:why should i not get money based on what my parents earn? its a complete joke imo

my parents do support me through uni with food and shelter like every parent other parent does
my friends piss away all the money they get from the government
imo cancel youth allowance, its a load of bullshit
or make them harder to get, the person should have to prove that they are forced to buy a necessity the parent should pay for such as food, or are forced to pay board etc. it just pisses me off seeing so many of my mates recieve
ive never met anyone who needs youth allowance
my main complaint is not that i do not get it, but rather that others do when they do not deserve it

First off - I'm not trying to make a personal attack or offend you. But your argument is pretty shonky and that needs to be pointed out
Just because your "friends piss away all the money they get from the government", that does NOT mean that all, or even the majority, or even a large minority, choose to do the same.
In my experience, there are many people out there who struggle through on youth allowance (who DON'T live at home, either because it's too far, or the family circumstances don't allow it or whatever, who AREN'T fed by their parents) who REALLY DO NEED youth allowance in order to attend uni and get a decent education.
So to say that you've never seen youth allowance used wisely or validly and therefore it should be completely discontinued... well all it really serves to prove is that you're incredibly naive and have a lot to learn in life.
Finally, you say your main gripe is that there are people receiving it who don't deserve to. Again, life will teach you in time that there will ALWAYS be people who get things they don't deserve (both good things, and bad things). This is a fact of life (get over it).
This is really a case of "for the greater good" - the government would know full well that there are certain people on youth allowance who shouldn't be, but the cost involved in weeding these people out makes it a waste of time and money.
So in short, lighten up buddy - life can be a bitch sometimes I know, but at least you've got a roof over your head, food in your fridge and a sweet car to drive - it ain't so bad!

The mistake you're making (and not trying to be too critical, but you've made the same mistake in a couple of threads now lol) is simple: your limited life experiences are not always representative of the overall situation; i.e. the world doesn't revolve around you.brad_gpx wrote:my parents do support me through uni with food and shelter like every parent other parent does

yeh i have see what you mean
and i do understand some people do need it (the get rid of it thing was just in a rage about it, i tend to move to extremities when i get angry)
but it should be harder to get
for kids living out of home they deserve it, its not easy to do that
i am incredibly naive
if it doesnt affect people i know or me then it doesnt exist

I always found it easier to go & find a job, than to deal with centrelink. Although it took me a bit longer than most to finish both my degrees, due to the extra workload.
The bonus is that I gained additional work related skills whilst working through uni, that placed me way ahead of some other graduates.
The negative is I probably did not get laid as much as the Aus-study Kids, 'cause they always had so much more spare time.
