Need a service

Im due for a service on the car, however, I honestly have no idea what a service includes... The ex had always done everything so I have no idea what needs to be fixed/changed

and dont want to take it to a mechanic and be ripped off and not even know it...

I guess what Im asking is what should I be expecting from a "service" and what else should I get checked up?

if its one of those 5000k~10000k intervals, its a minor service where you change your engine oil and check other fluids and brakes. Put a bottle of engine flush while the engine is running(please correct), then engine off, flush the oil, leave for a few minutes till its as close to completely drained , preferably you would have compressed air to blow out leftover oils from the sump, then reseal the sump, change the oil filter, fill in oil, 4.4Litres of it.

And im pretty sure the major service is done every 40000k, or check the the bonnet, yours might have a sticker on the major service interval, and thats changing all the fluids including the engine oil and changing the brakes.

Get hold of an FTO handbook; they always detail what the factory specifies must be done at certain intervals. As said, it depends on the mileage of the vehicle. Alternatively, call a Mitsubishi dealership, tell them how many k's it's done and ask for a faxed quote of what it costs for a service.

No idea since last servce but I have done a lot of long road trips and am pretty sure its time to check up on it all

Ive got the handbook in the car so will check it out

If I was to get a friend to do it whats the best engine flush, filter and oil ?

I heard nulon flush was good, then filter, i dont know but atm im using cooper, and oil, maybe castrol 5w30 fully synthetic.

Ok so my dad is going to do it, he normally works on 4WDs so Im hoping he just has a good basic knowledge of cars.

What size/type filter do I need to buy?

PS i know it will be in here somewhere but Im on my work computer and tme is limited with a boss like mine

That's a good thing; long trips are gentle on the car usually. Most engine wear happens when the motor is warming up and cooling down, which is why short trips aren't good for 'em.

I really need to thank you guys, I walked into SuperCheap today and if i hadnt of written down what I needed to get, I seriosuly, would have looked like a fool

But i really do appreciate the help

In regards to radiator coolants and brake fluids (god know how many other liquids Im supposed to buy) are they really just a general thing? And any brand will do?

Thats heaps good to know, I love driving my car on the highway so Im always up for a long trip when I have the funds

Unless digitally signed, (which NO workshops do) an emailed quote is open for dispute and the workshop can say "nope, we never promised it would be that cheap" where a written quote can be guaranteed to cost that much.
