lol well put brad :P as to what happened exactly I dont know much yet until I get my hands on the police report. But from what the police have told me over the phone it seems the car has been reported stolen and they were heading into the area when they came across my car...I've managed to talk my way into the police compound, half an hour after they closed! :P I think the guy felt sorry for me. To be honest it's not nearly as bad as I imagined mostly confined to the driver side but to be realistic I've seen a lot less go as a write off... I can confirm it was a tree they went into still had bark wedged between the bonnet and quarter panel. as for parts guys I don't want to start the parts spree just yet  but you guys will know about it when the decisions come through.

good to hear mate!

i hope you scavanged head units and personal stuff from the car then and there... otherwise wave goodbye to it

insurance will take everything if they write it off (which i doubt they will unless theres a chassis issue)

Hopefully the chassis isn't bent to buggery...

If they do write it off get in touch with them immediately and buy it back for a fraction of what they give you for it... people do that here all the time.

i mean, max would hook me up with some seat covers and i can draft in a LSD from some 18 year old dick who just got his licence and bought a FTO... slash wrote it off at the first tree he saw

seriously need another car and would love a toe without the medical dramas but im pretty sure thats impossible...

still waiting for ben to take me for a fang

Umm I think you mean 18 year old commodore drivers... :P

But seriously, I refute that statement.

I've had my car since I got my Ps (over a year ago now) and have not once had any incident whatsoever.

I won't deny that I tend to drive aggressively, but I never push it past my car's or my own limits, and when in built-up areas I drove totally sensibly, if not for the safety of my own life, but the safety of others.

I think that in general, low volume imports like the fto attract younger drivers who are more sensible and want to look after their car, whereas, the high volume, cheap as sh*t commodores attract wankers who think they are pro drifters and THEY are the ones you see wrapped around trees, like most of the wankers from my school last year.

Anyways, I could go on forever about the huge misconceptions people have about P-platers and licensing laws, but I shall end my rant there lol.

o0o0oh debate

i cant say thats totally true. i see heaps of ftos around speeding, cutting off people... you name it.

also the fto doesnt open up allot of streetracing avenues like allot of other cars do. all we have is touge and maybe drags, thankfully because of its na and fwd status we dont have too many fto hoons on the road compared to the million rwd'ers who purposely buy their cars to hoon.

that and i think this communitys stance on street racing. notice how every thread intended on discussing fto vs skyline or fto vs integra ends up with the original poster getting flamed? i think that the driving maturity that gets passed down from older members to more newer members/drivers is actually getting through

the whole idea about p-platers is semi true

personally i drive quite aggressive and have a lot of road rage aswell
i have no tolerance for other drivers and get the sh*ts whenever someone does something wrong on the road
i dont cut people off, pull out on people, do anything inconsiderate to normal drivers
i tailgate, honk my horn, high beam and generally abuse drivers who
a) cant go the speed limit (in my opinion if u cant go the speed limit because your car isnt good enough or your driving is not good enough then you shouldnt be on the road)
b) do not keep up with traffic and stay in the right hand lane
c) do not pull over on a 1 lane road when they can clearly see that they are blocking traffic behind them (as an l-plater i always pulled over, i find it so inconsiderate when other people dont, if anyone knows where wattle tree road is in holgate this will always happen there, at night i tend to tail gate and high beam the person in front of me until they pull over, two wrongs make a right)
d) do not indicate
e) stay in the left hand lane at night when there are no cars in front of you (its just courtesy even if your going over the speed limit there may be someone going faster)

ive been in a few minor car crashes (havent been driving in any of them) and imo its almost impossible to crash if you
- have a well maintained car
- use common sense
- excessively speed (by excessive i mean atleast 25-30km over the speed limit

most accidents can be avoided
even if your not at fault i bet there is almost always something you could have done to avoid it

what a load of crap

So your telling us that your stuck at a set of lights cars left and right of you, some wanker comes flying up behind you too fast cant stop in time and ploughs into you. How you going to avoid that?

Your going through a intersection was clear and yo had green light but someone comes flying through the red at great speed and t-bones you I bet you would not be able to do a thing about.

Black Ice ever heard of it? Ive seen the most experienced drivers who know what to look for and are cautious because of it end up sideways off the road.

Dont go telling me that its almost impossible to crash with a well maintained car either (you go over a pot hole tyre blows out your doing excessive speed) like to see you cope with that one too.

Its that kind of attitude where you think anything can be avoided or the bulletproof attitude which is killing many young people every year on the roads.

BTW how long have you been driving for? To have all this expereience and forsight into being able to avoid a crash yet have no probs being aggressive on the road and tailgating?

Hahah here we go, everyone in!

Brad, I agree with you on some of those items - they're really frustrating!

However, why on earth would you post all about your agressive driving on a public forum?

I just got an image of you in court, up on dangerous driving inflicting grevious bodily harm charges, and the prosecution lawyer standing up and reading out the post you just wrote.

Seriously mate, you don't wish that sort of thing on anyone, but some people need a good dose of common sense!

haha i knew my post would cause a lot of people to be angry

i stick by what i said
like i said almost all accidents can be avoided

there are cases where they cant be avoided as you have listed below but 9/10 cases dont happen that way
but most accident can be avoided by defensive driving, if a car starts swerving into your lane you SHOULD know if you have a car in the other lane or if you can move over there.

you should NEVER have to check blindspots (you still should though) but you should always know what is around you, you should be able to pretty much recall what is happening in an almost 360 degree vision around you at all times, tailgating is not dangerous if you have a car that can stop in time, i believe i could be <50 cm away from a car and if slammed on his brakes i could stop in time, though i do not tailgate anywhere near that close (generally i stay a fair distance back further than other people do when they tailgate, i just like to put on enough pressure to let them know they are pissing me off)

if someone runs a red light is about to t-bone you, you should see them the moment they come into view, and you should be able to react in time and speed up/slow down to avoid them

i write stuff like this cause although i respect most of you guys and think you are good blokes, i dont particularly care what your opinion of me is although i do value your opinion on other topics, i am very opinionated and enjoy giving me opinion on topics and often forget to censor my posts. i expect most of you to disagree with me when i post things like this
however i am simply giving my straight forward opinion on how i feel about stuff and dont attempt to hide any meaning of my opinion behind pretty words, my opinion is black and white of how i feel

i dont intend to offend you but instead present my side of the story

i am not an experienced, safe or good driver, i have never claimed to be
i am a 17 year old p plater

i also agree that tailgating causes accident

edit: i also have horrible grammar, spelling and sentence structure

50cm at 100kmh - do the math - you will not stop in time!

Putting pressure on the driver in front, how do you know what's going on in that car in front of you, you don't, by putting pressure on the driver in front you may just push them outside their abilities, thereby causing a crash...

It's attitudes like yours that lead to deaths on the roads. U think you are quick enough and skilled enough to handle any situation. Bullshit. No one is! And even if you were, what about those around you? Don't be so selfish!

Seriously you have no idea how quickly something can go wrong when driving. 60kmh doesn't feel fast until your car is out of control. And don't kid yourself that you're so good this will never happen, can happen to anyone.

I don't disagree there are a lot of wankers on the road, but from your post you're simply suggesting that you're one of them...

a speed limit is just that

A LIMIT, its not a CHALLENGE.

i acknowledge that its annoying people who drive slow, but if its 5 km under the limit, wisen up and use the time to relax, you sound too highly strung. sheesh.

LOL @ thread

i understand we all have our bad habits, but you should take into account all the advice above.

im not going to use the flamesword since your a contributing member and seem like a good bloke but tailgating at even 1m is just insane and a foolish thing to do on the roads.

have you attended a track day to push the limits of your fto? if not you'd have no clue how simple things such as brakes and tyres plays a big part to being able to stop, not just the driver.

factor in things like road condition, speed, even driver condition eg. fatigue... and you'll add up that the road is never safe, no matter how prepared you think you are.

think about it, when your in hospital with injuries was it worth those injuries just to make it to your destination 2, 3, or 5mins earlier?

or when your done for recless driving?

take note: allot of drivers suddenly brake on purpose when being tailgated
