Strong petrol smell

Post by wildfaye »

Hi guys, I've noticed that the petrol smell is quite strong from the engine bay after a drive. i can even smell it occasionally in the cabin.

Any ideas here? major repairs not...hmm...

i think sometimes oil can smell similar to Petrol...
After a hard run, sometimes i can smell a little bit of oil... but i think thats cos lately ive been running without a Crank Case Breather pipe which goes into your engine intake.. still waiting on UAS to send me one long enough for CAI..

could be a blocked cat. Sometimes they can smell like petrol when overheating.

or faulty oxygen sensor. When your oxy sensor is faulty, usually causes your engine to run rich. Is your exhuast tip really black? Does it occationally blow black smoke?

wildfaye, from what you tell, it sounds like the petrol is not burnt completely and that way you can smell it, which i think it flows thru the exhaust. Have you changed the spark plug? If the plugs tip has gone quite a bit, then it is less efficient to produce spark in respect to engine rev. This is only one possible factor of many other factors. I am no expert, but experience tells me, when i had the same problem and replaced the stock one.(the first one with car since built, at least i can tell from the looks). .... and the smell gone
