Ma baby getting a whole new respray

Post by nikhan »

because of the damn hail, I took my car to the panel beaters to have a look. And guess what, the guy saw a whole lot more dints on my car than what I had found which would mean a whole new respray!! Yay! Can't wait for it and all I have to pay is my excess with no effect on my premium. Sometimes sh*t that happens can be a blessing in disguise. And on top of that, my paintwork on my car has been in a worsening condition with the clear coat coming out in a couple of areas. But the downside is I won't have my baby for 3 weeks  Oh well...

I wonder if I stand on my balcony and pour buckets of golf balls off the roof, will it be passable as hail damage?

3 days?? How come so fast? I'm respraying my whole car not some panels. The guy said he had to take out the bumpers, sideskirts, windows, door handles etc. That cant be a 3 day job.

It won't take 3 days, 2-3 weeks sound about right.

Nope.. Cause a golf ball has a pattern.. Hexagon's I think.. That make up a ball.. So you would see that pattern.. Best bet is put the Golf ball in a stocking and swing it...
I just had to add it ......

No way you'll see a pattern in the panel if you hit it with a gold ball.

pretty sure the insurance companies would have a way of telling, even if u put something in a stocking. otherwise everyone'd be doing it.

nikhan good to hear your story has a happy ending... having just bought my car at the time and still selling my old one, mine got hail damaged without having any insurance on it

Yupz don't u love happy endings. sorry to hear abt you car Nick. Hope all goes well for you in the end. Oh btw if u wanna wreck your car with ice cubes you better do it soon. Don't think the insurance co might be too happy about it if you report it too late after the hail has happened.

I highly doubt that.
I live in melbourne and there was massive hail storms here last week. So no questions asked where the hail came from. And I also doubt they have some dude who is specially trained to tell what is and isn't hail damage..because it's just not possible.

It's just that no one has the balls to try it just in case..

There was a guy caught about 3 yrs ago using golf balls on his car when we had hail storms, not sure how but thats fraud and could mean jail time....worth the risk? I think not.

and 3 days to paint a car  Bloody hell mine took 3 weeks

it took me , 2 hours to take front bumper off, door handles, mirrors, side skirts (didnt need to take these off) they can stay on the car. front headlights rear headlights , antenna, and tape the windows up. 4-6 hrs it took to fix the dents and prime boot , roof and bonet. and front bumper and guard which mine had damage - 1 hr to scuff and srub the rest of the car. (if your doing the same colour you dont need to rub it down to metal u ust scuff the clear and paint over it. painting took 2 hrs 2 or 3 coats cant remember. clear (mine had metal black flakes put through ) (about 6coats of clear) 3-4 hrs. took me about 3-4 hrs to put everything back on cause i cleaned up sh*t. this was done to my car by 1 man a professional panel beater spray painter for 15years exp he did painting patching etc i pulled apart etc so on. i paid 900$ for my paint job me suplying paint clear etc.

have a go your self. time it. side skirts and back bumper can stay on. windows dont need to come out. all they are gonna do is fold back the rubber.. and paint as close as possible. they just want more $$
windows will only come out if u do a complete colour example going from yellow to black.
walk into a shop make friends with one of the workers.. offer cash in hand and say you have done work before u will pull everything apart.bang u have a 4000 paint job for a a quarter of the price
