Any Questions for Mitsubishi

The concept FTO shape ended up being very similar to the Mitsubishi Eclipse sold in the US in 2000.

I want wanna know is how well can the Mivec engine handle a supercharger running 7psi compared to a turbo running the same boost?

On that note, are we ever likely to see an eclipse sold in australia??

I love the look of them and the fact that u can get an AWD turbo version!!

that version of the eclipse is not available in the US as a brand new car. we might however, get the AWD new Mivec eclipse.

I also desperately want the english version of the GPX computer wiring diagram.

And what type of airflow does the GPX have?

Sorry to disappoint you folks, but I donâ€™t think there is any chance in hell of seeing an eclipse in Australia for a very long time.

MITSUBISHI A BROKE. (And when I say broke, I mean really broke)

Thee new (UGLY) model magna is not selling at all. Which is where Mitsubishi Australia was planning on bringing in most of the profit.

I know however they are considering bringing in a different sedan. So maybe if youâ€™re lucky the Galant or something similar could come out here.

But the Eclipse I really doubt it, as they are trying to cut costs and there is no real huge market for the eclipse out here. (compared to the magna I mean).

I canâ€™t confirm that for sure, but as the way I understand it. Holden actually threatened to pull out of the competition if Mitsubishi joined.

They claimed that it has always been about Holden VS Ford and they want to keep it that way.

As you can understand the Supercar competition would not take that risk, as Holden is the main form of income for the competition.

If you ask me they were just threatened by this, as a V8 Mitsubishi would flog them both.

i guess Holden/Ford could not afford to be humiliated AGAIN like they once were back in the early 90s when they got absolutely flogged by the R32 GTR... ;)8)

Indeed they did, but if you take a further look into it the GTR's entrance you'll find that they spent buckets of money to keep the project running. Although Ford/Holden were embarrassed and insisted on a rule change (which they got in the end) the GTRs were eating through big dollars and in the end it wasn't viable. There were also reliability issues involving the destruction of turbos and other technical problems. Godzilla did great things for touring cars in this country so I ain't gonna take anything away from em, but I thought I'd just give a little bit of back story that is sometimes ignored.

As for Mitsubishi entering, I'd say they'd have a tough time initially. They have no rear wheel drive sedan, current V8 engine they can use and more importantly they don't have a strong background in touring cars. I think money is also a big problem. Any one a follower of WRC? Mitsubishi is doing it really tough. They've been out of the game for a couple of years and now they're getting slaughtered.

Finally, if another manufacturer was to enter the V8s I'd prefer if it was Toyota. They're philosiphy towards motorsport is constant imporovement and not to sell cars. It's admirable stuff, but unfortunetley that has got them nowhere in F1.

That is true. I can see where they're coming from, but in the end I'm certain another manufacturer will enter. With the expansion of V8s into China it's only in the best interest of the sport to expand in all areas, if it be where they race or what cars they're racing. Back to Toyota on this one, they said they won't enter V8s if it means either Ford/Holden have to pull out.

Yeah a quick question, is the emissions specs for the 1996 Mivec FTO's the same as the 1998 Mivec FTO's and possibly any documentation to support that.

Heres some questions: Why was the FTO never brought to Australia to compete against Honda Integra and Toyota Celica, it would have done very well.
Same with the CC Lancer GSR why was it dropped only to see the WRX come in and take the postion it left behind, now look where it is??

The main answers to that question Quattro are:

1) Each car marque is limited as to the number of vehicles they are allowed to import by the Aus Government. For Mitsubishi to have brought in the FTO would have meant that they would've had to cancel another of the vehicles they were importing (e.g. Pajero). As the FTO sold is such low numbers it was much better for Mitsubishi to import the higher selling cars.

2) The FTO is the little brother of the GTO (3000 GT). The GTO came to Australia with high hopes but flopped in terms of sales. It was considered too much of a risk to do the same with the FTO, especially when as stated in point 1) they would have had to cut another car to do so.

I wish they would sell the Mitsubishi Eclipse here in Australia. i saw it a few years ago at the melbourne Motor show and now I want one... Does Mitsubishi Japan have any intentions to import some sporty cars into Australia?

I know this has nothing to do with the FTO's but I really would like to know how come the current model Magna ever made it as a production car.

to be honest it looks as shocking as the previous Ford Falcon model.

Don't car manufacturers realise that the car doesn't look right and go back to the drawing board?

If I would be the car designer I would think twice before putting a car on the market and then realising that it was a bad choice......
