lots of ideas, need some advice on AWD 6A13 fto
ok so petes gpx which i stripped for a bloke decided he didnt want it after hunting me to strip it for 3 months, dickhead wont even answer calls
is sitting in my shed as a rolling shell
found a VR4 legnum manual half cut for $1300
questions
1. any chance of squeezing the vr4 box in?
i know bennoz mentioned it was too big, but jus wanna confirm theres no chance
2. will the legnums pedal box assembly and basically all the manual coversion gear fit in the fto, that way i could jus but the manual fto box and not all sorts of bits
3. anychance of using the legnum loom? like basically the whole thing with the factory 6A13 ecu?
4. AWD set up? how impossible is it? and if i were to go down that track how would i go about it?
5. can everyone go easy on me about me and my noob questions lol
im no mechanic and im speculating a lot of ideas
no plans yet jus wanna know some options
cause its already stripped and unregistered
jus contimplating a long term project

Vr 4 box won't fit at all way to big.
I used the 6a13 loom but had it chopped and spliced with the old fto loom so all the dash and everything works.
All wheel drive I have been told is easier with the rear half of a evo 3 or 4 can't remmber which one.
You proberly looking at 25k to get it done or even more man.

box wont fit mate but with $$$ anything is possible
pedals may fit they are two seperate units in fto 1, clutch 2, gas and brake, as long as they bolt up wont be a prob then easy to put on master cylinder and line to slave cylinder.
As said before easier to splice wires into FTO loom using VR4 ECU
or just use a standalone ECU
AWD is of course very possible and I do believe that evo 3 will be the best chance of acheiving this you basically need to chop and weld the lower rear chassis together can and has been done but expect to pay big $$$ if you dont have the knowhow to do it.
But as you said long term project so I say mate go for it! No hurry to get it done which means you can slowly pay for it bit by bit

Agreed with all of the above. Evo 3 is easiest rear subframe to fit, but 4 is possible too (that's the one I was looking at)vipfto wrote:box wont fit mate but with $$$ anything is possible

I say go for it too. IMO you should do all of the fabrication first for the 4WD setup, because then, if you get sick of the project (it would be pretty mammoth) sell it to someone else with the 4WD work already done. Wopuld be worth a bit too to someone.

Evo 4..... you cant use evo 3Astron_Boy wrote:Guy doing the roadster conversion is the best base for information.
Used evo 3? floor pan, evo 3 gearbox and all running gear.
Was using the evo motor, but you could simply change it back to a mivec if you really wanted...

It's not entirely true.. the 4 can be used, but it's nowhere near as simple. Engineers I talked to said it was definitely viable, but more fabrication is needed.I8A4RE wrote:Evo 4..... you cant use evo 3Astron_Boy wrote:Guy doing the roadster conversion is the best base for information.

I don't wanna sound like a pessimist, but if you claim to be a mechanical n00b, then attempting to do an AWD conversion is just asking to be reamed by every bloke with a spanner that touches the car. It'll cost you a million dollars.
Just dump the Legnum donk in it & be done with it. I garauntee you'll love it.
Plus it'll save me wading through 100 pages of floorpan waffle from a bunch of pipe dreamers to get to your genuine engine transplant questions

Sorry, yes meant 4, was ironically looking at evo 3s on carsales at the time, so threw me off.
I dont want to sound like a secondary pesimist, but how many people say, then plan, then keep talking about doing it, and dont.
Honestly this sort of thread is not uncommon, In my time here I can think of 2 to which I read, and I'm sure there's more.
With the FTO Roadster being the only actual advancement I've seen done, but even that thread link doesnt work anymore
I'd love to do a proper evo coupe and not just a fwd variant, but i know i couldnt do it myself and would get ass raped for trying.
If you think you can achieve it, I'd start reading up on measurements over anything else, like proper mitsu released manuals and the like.
scrawl the net for hard facts based on sizes of things, etc.
Wow, language filter in this place lets me get away with everything

muahahhahahahahah
EDIT!
When I first drove this car with this engine I was "holy sh*t, no traction.. i needz 4WD biches!!!" but then after I got the coil overs and tuned the shocks etc correctly the traction was pretty mint...
Just remember you will lose another 10-15% power from parasitic drivetrain losses (early WRX's put out something like 155KW at the crank, and that equates to ~95KW ATW to put that into perspective), let alone the large increase in weight. Worth it? Perhaps not. I won't be doing the conversion. The bang for buck factor just isn't there over what you get with the FWD 6A13TT transplant on it's own

I completely agree, the cost of an AWD conversion would be phenominal... prohibitive at best. Awesome potential? For sure. But seriously, you would run almost twice what it costs to do the 6A13 swap JUST for the AWD setup.
Got $40-50k to drop on a 10+ year old car? Buy the Evo
