FTOAU changes please read and comment

all posts will be moderated (moderators have to approve the post) on that forum and the company will be given the chance to post their own side of the story (before the post gets published).

This won't become a bitching forum and the content of it will be tightly controlled to ensure that both sides of the story are accurately presented. Hopefully it will have a positive effect on the companies we deal with and they way they deal with us.

how about a new DIY section.
Which describes "how to" and "what you need"...
hopefully we can have pictures and step by step instructions...
as ppl does now, they can submit their step by step inst., it's just that it'll be in one place now.
if steps are already in other FTO sites, maybe we can show the links...
eg.
1. oilchange... in that tutorial, it will already specify the part # for the oil filter... and links to past threads as to which oil to use (as this is not something standard) etc.
2. transmission oil change... again "how to" and what oil etc.
3. painting calipers....
4. painting interior parts...
5. how to detail your wheels like Mikey has (which he hasn't told us how

)

6. how to change the sparkplugs...
etc.

i don't know how it can be done, but it'd be good to have a "how to perform maintenance work on your baby"

yeah, sorry.. that's what I'm referring too

is that done by prof. detailers or possible as a DIY? it be good to know hwat is needed and how.

but i guess i have to get decent tyres to show off first

I did the same thing when I had a Celica, it's as simple as getting a white paint pen and colouring in the letters on the tyres!

Some car places sell the white paint pens / tyre markers, otherwise you can buy them from stationery shops. There's a good chance both Autobarn and Officeworks have them.

Yeah i did the same thing before, but those paint pens & markers seem to either peel off or crack after 2wks. Maybe is those tyre's gloss, i spray them after i applied the "white letters".

I had virtually no problems, other than a need for a little touch up probably every 4-6 months.

It is important to make sure the tyre is clean from any dirt, dust or other residues such as tyre protector etc. as this will stop the paint sticking to the tyre. It's best to clean all the lettering first with metho.

we're kinda hijacking this topic, so we'd better stop or take it to the styling area

It was a few years back so I don't remember the brand, but I do remember that it was a common stationery brand (i.e. they made lots of pens and textas etc.) . I purchased it from a car shop (I think Autobarn) and it was packaged as a "Tyre Marker" but I saw the exact same product being sold in a stationery shop (Officeworks I think) as a "Paint Texta". It was the same product but just with different packaging. From memory the stationery shop was cheaper too

Basically its just a white paint pen, but cleaning the tyre first with metho is the key.

how about an area where we have
Recommended shops.... because of service, price etc....

and maybe also one for bargains that we have just bought or know of...
for example....
I just got a great bargain with my new heavy duty whiteline swaybar....
I got it cheaper than what some ppl are selling it for, second hand!

if we have a thread like that... ppl who are undecided whether to buy a specific part/product... when they see a bargain... this may help them decide whether to get it or not... coz usually for me.. i wait until i find a great deal
