tyre choice.

Post by zuihoujueding »

Been driving in the stupid rain over these few days and been quite a ride! understerr and aquaplanning, everything!
I need new tyres! my did not realised i have been using my Maxxis MAV-1 for 2years now and its nearly bald.
Currently is 205/50 R16 with my stock rims.

Wonder what is the widest i can go without rubbing? 215-225?
And i can go 45 instead of 50?

And does the the same brand and specs have to apply to the front and back as well?

Nope. How much?

You can probably go wider to a 215, but i wouldn't worry about changing the profile. You'll throw your speedo reading out.

got the tyres and they are great. up to my expectations. While doing all 4 wheels alignments, the mechanic found out all my alignments are horribly wrong....no wonder im having such a bad ride.
Its all good now. 8)

They normally charge at $88 for 4wheel computer 4wheels alignment. But they only charge me at $44 because i bought 4tyres from them.

They actually want to charge $55 as they did not read my email correctly. they thought im having a galant which is a passenger car. Sports car takes longer to align.

AGREED, plus i have never heard of anyone charging more because it's a sports car.

Bob jane did wheel alignment 60 bucks (best ever alignment i have had)

Beaurepairs wheel alignment $80 (I'll never go back)

there are lots of methods out there and price will depend on equipment used but effectivly the end result should be the same wether they use a tape measure or latest technology

Yeah compannies that spend a fortune on the latest equipment want to recoup their money faster so will probably charge more, than a guy who already has made his money 5 fold on the machine he brought 10 years ago.

Bob jane @ southport, gold coast just listened to exactly what I wanted and we very good at using the machine they had. I coulld not gaurantee that all bob jane are this good though, but now I make the 35min trip to get them to do it, whenever I need one.

Totally agree and i should know I have them on my car right now.

Grip not too bad in the dry, however an absolute nightmare in the wet.
Also side wall are very weak and if you have a low profile tyre, you will get excessive wear on either side of the tyre.
And if that hasnt convinced you, the tyre will also start to pull away from itself... pics to come ;)
