heard a bang, need urgent help

Post by 8u8813f1uff »

hey fellas, i was driving home today when i heard a slight exploding sound...then the next thing i knew my tacho had dropped to zero....then i see smoke coming from under my hood....

lucky i wasnt far from home and i opend up the front and i saw black liquid...after taking a look dad concluded that its water and not oil *phew*

we had found that a pipe had popped...somehow...and now i wanna get it replaced....

this photo shows where the pipe connected to (the yellow lit area from the torch)

this is where it connected to on the other side (the hole)

and finally here is the actual pipe

can anybody tell me exactly what this pipe is? my dad assumes that its the hot air pipe for the heater inside the car but im not sure....also if it is this thats damaged, why is there water everywhere? is it ok to drive my car without this pipe?

im going down to autobarn tomroow to find a replacement...if anybody can give me a hand as to what item number i shoudl look for...itd b greatly appreciated...thanks

I'm guessing its one of the pipes that go to the heater core.

Also if you take the pipe with you the guys at autobarn should easily be able to tell you which one you need

Yeah, just grab a generic bit of cooling hose (the same diametre as the busted one) and use a couple of hose clamps to nip it into place ;)

hmmmmm...it seems easy to just get 1 and clamp it in on both ends...but where did all that exploded water come from? cause when i took the hose out...there wasnt any water inside it...is something else damaged?

Undo the hose from the other side of the heater and run some water through to make sure it isn't blocked.

Then when you are filling up your car with coolant again make sure there are no air pockets. These expand more than water and can cause pipes to pop off.
