ok so im doin a mivec conversion, the local import and performance shop is owned by a absolute c**t,
i asked him about the conversion and he said id have to replace the whole loom, like everything electrical from the dash forward like lights etc ... could take a while = $$$
he also said cause the motor is coming out of an auto there is a spine or something on the back of the motor that would need to be cut off and this could take hours ... is he jus tryin to raught me or is this true?
pretty sure its BS but jus thought id ask before i tell him to stick it up his ass lol
ANY help would be really appreciated

loom and ECU will have to be changed but its not really an extreme job, and as for spline cutting off? thats odd think its total BS, if its manual now just need to bolt flywheel and clutch and make sure driveshafts fit. make sure you have correct altenator thats about it pretty simple really

I'd recommend against cutting any parts off an engine ! Usually when converting from an auto/manual there is a thrust (spiggot) bearing which needs to be added/removed depending on the motor.... at no stage should parts be cut, especially as this will introduce heat and stress to the tempered steel causing it to weaken.
I think the opening sentence to this thread really explains how you feel about that particular car shop. Needless to say if you decide to deal with them you will be setting yourself up for dissapointment. Do yourself a favour, recognise the alarm bells in your head and listen to them.

and i wont ever deal with this guy cause ages back i got him to change my sparkies and do an oil change, he charged me 200 plus parts and when i got the fto back it was running like sh*t, thought it was jus cause it was the young guy who worked on my car
also thought about the 6A13T but im on my Ps and it would be a lot of work to make it fit, plus then would have to engineer, also reason for mivec is my gr motor is pretty worn, like 180 kms, and i got the whole GPX at a pretty reasonable price, and yep im doin the conversion myself, if the loom is just plug and play basically ill get my friend to help me, he done an SR20DET conversion in his hilux, but hes running an aftermarket computer
and thanks heaps for all the advice so far
