No Power to Coils....

Post by justbecause »

does anyone have any idea why all of a sudden my coils not getting any power I have to route the power from another source then the engine starts when i do so I have no RPM signal...

I check the ignition wire on the ecu there is power but none out by the coils...

yes it is... because the engine starts once I power the coils for another source.... an i check the connectors the crank and cam sensors are connected... they both have power.... only the coils dont have power.... the injectors have power.. only the coil i also checked the IFS and it also have power on a black/white wire which seem to be the same wire on the engine control relay inside the car.... the awg looks the same... the coil awg is thinner....

Gawd.. .could be a million things. Checked fuses? Tested the coil circuit for continuity back to the ECU? What ECU are you using? Has it got a base map if its aftermarket?

Factory ECU All fuses are good.... I did see a black/white wire looks like the same awg as the coil on the ECU which give power when the ignition (key) is switched on... I didnt check for continuity but the signal from the coils are going to the ECU just not power.... i dont think the IFS if dead...

like benny says could be a few different things. are you getting signal out of the ecu from ignition connectors?

YES!!!!

let me make it clear the coils have 3 wires

black/white - power
black - ground
red green white - which is signal for each coil... (i.e. on color for each coil)

if I apply B+ to Power (blk/wht) the car starts and run fine... I have been using the car like this for the pass 2 days without a problem...

so I would believe the ECU is receiving signal via the red, green & white which is each coil... it doesn't miss in-fact it works as normal....

so the real problem here is that the black/white wire (power) is not receiving nothing...

Well you either trace the power lead & find the break in it, or wire a new line in thats powered when ignition is on.

+1

and thats exactly why I asked my question. all it is, is a broken wire. so fix it,

No Break....
the IFS is shot...

some reason really shot my friend has no rpm and it was the IFS which he never bother to replace but his car still starts....

the IFS has 4 wires....

BLK/WHT - Power from Engine Control Relay
Blk/Wht - Output to coil
Black - Ground
White - RPM

I bridge the two black and white and car starts fine but whit no RPM

see attachment....
