Clutch slipping

Post by Apothus »

1995 FTO GPX, Manual, Performance exhaust.

Hi

My Fto is feeling a little sorry for its self and limping around with a bit of a clutch issue. I have been poking around the forums trying to work out what the problem could be but it isn’t really apparent apart from it being a clutch issue. So i thought i would outline it and see if anyone has a thought on the issue.

If i pull away from the lights, drop the clutch and open up the throttle it pulls away beautifully with no slip at all.
Then things get weird, when i shift up into second, drop the clutch and accelerate the engine revs hard but the car doesn’t accelerate, after a second or two the revs drop back down, the car starts to accelerate and the revs climb normally. Essentially for any gear change if I try to put down any abnormal (greater than normal city driving) amounts of power I get this strange behaviour. It is especially noticeable in down shifts, i.e. dropping from cruising in fourth to overtaking in 2nd/3rd.

I vote for clutch.
going fast doesn't kill you, it's the sudden stop that does.
