Bloody Roos

Post by dstocks »

Well, finally collected a Kangaroo on the trip home last night  . Lucky I wasnt in the FTO :D . I cant believe an animal would be stupid enough to try and jump through a line of cars moving at 100km/h. It wasnt as though I was at the front or back of the line. Had 0 chance of missing it as it was dark. First saw it when it was about 10m from the car. Swerved and managed to stop it hitting the front passenger corner of the 4WD, but it ended up hitting just in front of the rear wheel and snapped the rear plastic fairing that goes around the wheel arch. No dents to the metal panels though, so lucky I guess.

Wow... congrats on avoiding as much as you did and not causing an accident. AND that you weren't in the FTO!

Thinking though... although it'd do a hell of a lot of damage, a roo should bounce up over the roof shouldn't it? Or would it be through the screen and a getting a mouth full of Kangaroo Jack? Generally don't have these problems this side of the water.

All depends on the car..... I hit a roo head on at 100ks+ a couple of years ago while driving to Darwin, luckily i was driving an old Ford Fairlane that was built like a tank! The roo exploded (blood and bits everywhere) over my bonnet and the only damage was a bust headlight, a dent in the bonnet and a puncture in the aircon pipeing. Got the light replaced and the bonnet banged out at the next stop and sweated the rest of the way to Darwin.

I would hate to have seen the damage that it would of done if i was in an FTO!!

Ah, was talking about the FTO there... they're built really low, and the windscreen sweeps back really well... Hopefully no one will have to find out!

Canberra, the capital with that country feeling 8)

Too many roads attached to bushland, you see kangaroo's even 3km out of the city center.
