I've taken it to the workshop & the guy "had a look at it" ... he literally jumped in pushed on the pedal & said ..they're going to need to replace the clutch.. and it would be
$660 for labour (as a ball park figure, could be more, or less - but I got the impression it would be more)
Why he couldn't tell me that over the phone before I drove my car 15km to get it there I have no idea (except in the hopes that I'd just leave it there to get the work done)
I drove my car back home again that afternoon, where it will be staying until I can check around & get some more quotes & some more advice from trusted mechanics.. I may end up taking it back there anyway, they seem to know their stuff & apparently make good custom uprated clutch kits.. It just seems like they might be a bit dodgy & I might end up with a lot of extra charges they're not telling me up front..
Can someone give me an idea of what would be involved with getting the gearbox out? From what I understand of it, you hoist the engine disconnect gearbox from it etc & drop the gearbox out the bottom.. Is that right?
Is there any reason why they'd need to take apart any of the turbo setup in order to get it out? I would have thought they wouldn't need to touch it.. As far as I can tell, the piping isn't in the way..
Other places are quoting at around $400 + "more" if the turbo setup is a bitch to work around..
As for clutches, a couple of places make Uprated Sports Organic kits with apparently tougher internals which I can pick up for between $530 - $570 which should be good for around 300kw, 40% increase (They said any more & the gearbox would become the weak link..) and Race brakes have quoted on their uprated kit, touting an increase of "over 100%"

- from memory, $680 + postage $30
Thanks in advance for any help guys
