Adraino, thats some nice work. You have certainly got to grips with max, and its awesome you've built a non stock car. Keep up the good work, 3D is so much fun.

I've attached some pics I did last year, using Lightwave. My FTO is standard, but the render is not the best, and I never finished it or textured it.

I chucked in my bike and Peugeot 206 as well. Everything is modelled, logos, wheels, tread, seats, dash (but not everything).

(the jaggies are from the jpeg compression!)

Any hints as to how I can get one apart from buying one?

Adriano?
Umm... I hope you have broadband!
Cos most of the pirated versions are quite large!
And even then they are not full versions! Try to Kazza it, other wise there are lot's of warez sites that have it.

Adriano: Did you use like a plastic model of an fto while on the computer to help you model the shape or did you just keep running back & forth between the computer and your fto when you were modelling? :)

Damn, the site has stopped allowing external linking.. I'll put them on a different site and relink them.
Stick with it. I've know a guy who started doing cars, and made so many and got so good, that he now does it commercially, and has a car in a TV ad for Subaru.

FTO12345: Most companies offer a trial version for free. If you want to try them, download one of them. 3D is not easy. I'm not sure what the policy is on this site, but it would be best not to talk about warez, and how to obtain it. I've belonged to many 3D forums that have got in trouble for having members talk about it.

Boris: Reference phots are the best thing to use, and blueprints (side front back top) are how most people model things like cars. I have blueprints for several FTOs, so I will post them when I do my own photos. I'll post a link to a site that has thousands of blueprints to nearly any car you can imagine. Some rubbish, but most are good (usually model blueprints, tamiya do awesome ones.)

boris:
yeah, i actually bought a fujimi 1:24 model... scanned the 2D drawings that came with it and used that as blueprints... took numerous photos of me car and referred to that too... and always had the actual 1:24 model beside me everytime i was modeling :D

nightfire:
what other fto blueprints have you got? i could only find 1 or 2 from SMcars(ithink thats what its called) forum... yeh post it as well, would be good to see it...

Hey guys here's a link to download 3D max Version 6 it's a full version, no restrictions, and completly legal only problem is it's an absolute pig of a file (75MB) and also there is system spec's for using it like you need Win XP/2000 and other spec's which are listed on the site(http://www4.discreet.com/3dsmax/).

It's only a thirty day trail version but you could probably run it through a program like Date Cracker 2000 and get unlimited time to use it. I didn't download 3D max6 cos I only have Win98 and a pissy dial up connection... so I dont know if Date Cracker 2000 would work on it...

Disclaimer: The author of this post does not condone using software programs like Date Cracker 2000 and has never used the software himself I swear it man...;P

Okay, I've fixed the links for my previous post.

Wow. Nice work you did there guys. Is there any website that I can get hold of the blue prints or even better have the 3d model ready in a max file.

thanks man, I spent ages on the bike, and tried to model everything I could.
But if you want to see some looney detail, check out www.lwg3d.org/v3/index.php

This is a lightwave group, but you can still poke around. Check out models by Lewis and Cherki, in the forum, WIP non organic section. They both make cars, and these guys model the dials and knobs in the interior. They are crazy. Lewis sells his cars now, and has got one in a commercial.

Hey Rob,

I tried to down load it but it doesn't seem to want to do it...

Have you downloaded it yet?

Just wondering if any one has done it...

Thanks,

I never expected it to be so hard to use this 3d max. I got an evaluation copy and didn’t even manage to draw a wheel. Must be very hard for a beginner. Is there any simpler program to suggest getting start with?

BTW. I found a large library of cars which include EVO, Z4, M3, M5, 7series, Impreza, New Mustang and many many more (60 in all) all max files including rendering images etc..

i dunno about how easy other softwares are compared to max.. but i was told it's much easier to use compared to Maya.... i've only used 3D CAD packages in the past, and they are a lot harder to use than max due to their nature of being precise to the 0.001 of a millimetre 8O ....

I did a 6 month course in 3D Studio Max... I know how you feel. But I think the best way to start learning is drawing something simpler...

There are simpler programs, but there not as effective as Max, especially when it comes to texturing.

There are hundreds of begginer tutorials out there...

Yes, it's complex, but you get used to it, if you have the effort and the time, it's well worth it, as Adriano has shown us. :P
