Ranger's valve stem trick

Anyone heard about the valve stem method of booking a ticket?

The story goes like this. I parked at a 2hrs parking lot and what i do is to go and check every 2hrs if theres any chalk marks on my wheels.
Until lunch time, my colleague tol dme that a ranger is booking my ride. So i rush down and talk to him. He said my ride was parked at the same place 4hours ago. I did not expect him to say that becos my wheels are not chalked.
Then he told me that he used the valve stem method. This is how it works:
The ranger would stand at the side of your ride and look at the wheel as if its a clock face and the valve stem as the needle. e.g 2o'clock front and 9o'clock rear. He then note it in his PDA. SO when he come back awhile later and find that your car hasnt' been moved cos the vale stems are still at the same "time". Thats how a couple of cars were booked on the same street.
I told him i have never heard before and asked if theres any info on the website. He said there was none and theres no need for it. As every driver will know that you have to move your ride until within the time limit, simple as that.
Luckily, he let me off which is quite unheard of. Phew!

Im wondering if hes just bullshitting, as i tried not to contest him becos he already gave me a chance.

i guess that would work if he noted it when he first saw it. and his pda would not the time he entered the info.

good trick i say .. saves from bending down and chalking.

Interesting, it solves how people still get tickets even though there werent any chalk marks on their tyres. Its quite ingenious.
