Parts Interchangeable with Other Cars

Post by ruchi »

I know that some of the parts in the FTO are the same as what's used in other cars - e.g. air filter, oil filter etc. and I also know that some of this information is scattered around these forums. But I had an idea today  about centralising this information in the one thread so it was easier to find, and also to see if there are any weird interchangeable parts - e.g. like Holden indicator lights or Ford tailights or Mercedes door handles that fit.

And before someone makes a silly comment like "why would you want to put Ford parts on a FTO?" let me respond by saying because the parts would probably be easier and cheaper to get and because they could also offer an alternative way to dress up your FTO.

I'm not talking about "dodgy brothers" stuff, but anyone now of bits from other cars that can be adapted to fit the FTO?

I Know for a fact that 80% of the Mitsubishi part #’s that start with MB are also used on many other Mitsubishi’s and most were even used in the days when they stuck Chrysler badges on the COLTS and other Mitsu

Any part #’s that start with MB I can cross reference to the old Mitsubishi / Chrysler vehicles easily threw the Chrysler parts system.

Mitsu Part # Part Vehicles

MB 874344 Radio Bracket left 92 E-21 E-41 colt
95 21,41 COLT/SUMMIT

Don’t ask me what the E-21 or E-41 stands for though.

in case anyone is wondering, there is already a database of parts in the "FTO Information" link on this website, but these are genuine parts, whereas in this thread I'm interested in 3rd party.

http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... ries&cid=3

Aside from these relatively standard items that have been mentioned so far, does anyone know of any quirky items such as parts from other cars or manufacturers.

Either way, keep the info coming.

From my excursions the other day - The ATF filter on the auto gearbox is the same as most late model Magnas.. and here's the odd bit, Hyundai uses the same filter!
Don’t ask me what the E-21 or E-41 stands for though.
The E number is Mitsubishi's general floorpan designation, it's more of a generation thing than specific model/year chassis designator. Current designation (I think) is E-46 which Mitsubishi are hoping to adapt their entire model range to fit. Generally, major components are swappable across platforms without major mods, like brakes, engines and some suspension stuff.

Download the PARTS NAVI file,
this list the KOYO part number for all JDM cars. Mitsi FTO tensioners, idlers and wheel bearings are all listed. Koyo parts should be easy to get in Australia
Idle Speed Control valve is fitted to a number of models

I am trying to do up a list by visiting breakers yards and comparing parts

ok the spark leads can be bought from all repco, autobarn stores.

ive got a product number but i have no idea what brand name it is.

the product number is Leads only supplied - our part number for this kit is TG6193

going by the number, its obviously top gun, everywhere sell them. Not this is only for a non mivec engine.

price is 89.99 pretty cheap considering what you have to chose from.

The front pads are same as a galant 94 2.0 DOHC model. Disk rotors are the same size, but they have a 4 stud pattern.

anyone know the gates number for the GR timing belt?
