Wings that actually work?

Post by oodLes »

Sup all,

Just got the car back from the mechanic with an intriguing problem, after removing the rear wing and having the thing resprayed I put on a VS front bar, and now at around 160 or so (I didn't test this of course) its pushing the nose of the car down so hard that the back is lifting and now the tails going all light.

I've just had new springs and shocks fitted so thats not the problem, just wondering if anyone has any experience with a wing that actually works properly rather than the crap people buy down autobarn etc?

Sorry, how often are you going to be travelling at 160 km/h plus that is going to necessitate this?

Could always go with the VS wing..

Make sure its either a genuine or a very good copy, as they have adjustable blades. I fiddled with a few settings on mine on the track before she blew.

There's also a number of rear suspension settings you can change to minimise it, such as adding more neg camber.

I looked at the VS wing but don't like it as much as I thought I would also finding a genuine combat painted is hard, kinda like the idea of grabbing a proper GT carbon because don't whave to do anything to it.

I won't be going winton for a while yet so I won't adjust the camber etc until about a month beforehand.

I mean I don't want a stupid autofail wing, I want something actually designed for track use thats street legal. Ruddy's probably paying so somethign really good isn't out of the question.

(Awaits rage at mention of GT wing)

But that is what they're for! You'd be the only bloke in history

Just need to find a nifty way to disconnect / reconnect it when needed...

I thought they were illegal too but wondered how all these random tards with pulsars had them on and weren't getting booked, if I get an ADR approved proper one is that still illegal?

I thought it was illegal because if you hit someone they have to be able to roll over the back of the car, I thought they were illegal for that reason, and that the egdes just had to be within the width of the body of the car.

There's a lot of GT wings that are removable.

I've had a GT Wing for 2 years now without getting a defect, but 100% sure its a defect to have. As long as you drive sensibly they wont hassle you.

Im unsure of brands on GT wings but if you want to go carbon gonna cost around $800. Not worth it i rekon, just get a topmix wing or a veilside combat wing. Suits the FTO more. Good luck

Why not PM Teania? (ex club sec) She's still about on here pretty regularly. They bought one specifically for the track.

Just messaged Teania Bennoz, thanks.

Ideally I need an easily removable, doesn't-leave-holes-in-the-boot, height and angle adjustable, carbon, gt wing. Worst comes to worst my mechanic was going to make up a lip for a stock spoiler just to add enough downforce. When he was working with brad jones at bathurst with a bmw sedan they had a pisstiny spoiler on it that came from factory but at speed was putting down 600kg after putting a lip on it.
