Hey,
Your one of the lucky ones actually. The guy who did this has done the right thing and accepted responsibility. You are fully covered for the cost of the repair (I dont know about a rental though). What would have been really bad is if there WASNT a card on your windscreen

Mate that bus driver is a true CHAMPION. I would be sending him a 6 pack just for owning up to his mistake.
Now call your insurance and tell them what happened, as for sourcing parts definitly.....front bar upgrade time

Call the insurance company, they should be able to give you a short list of their approved repairers, those repairers should be able to help you source a nice front bar upgrade (as it would be cheaper than a stock one).
Your insurance will pay, then claim from the bus drivers' insurance/company.
You truly are one of the lucky ones, then again, if he just drove off with a load of passengers, someone would have reported it... so he probably didn't have much choice

Yea, you should consider yourself lucky and should actually be happy that he left you a note. If he didn't, it's game over for you since you have no comp insurance.
Also - Courtesy car depends on who you get the car fixed by. If they want to give you a courtesy car, they will. When I was getting mines repaired after it was rear ended, I didn't have it for 3 months and for those 3 months I had a courtesy car given to me by the repairer. I can recommend them to you, but they're in the West, although very reputable.

What you do is - Contact the guy who left the note, get his insurance details. Don't call them and say "I want this, this and this fixed", just get the Insurance details.
Do it ASAP.
Call his insurance company, say you were involved in an accident, you weren't at fault and you're calling with the details of the person who was at fault's.
They'll tell you what to do from there. They'll get somebody to come inspect the car first of all. When they send the guy, make sure he doesn't come to your house. Have your car at the smash repairers by whom you want the car fixed by. Make sure he is there when the assessor is there so you'll have sufficient funds for genuine parts for repairs as the assessor will try to get away with quoting as little as possible.
Your insurance company has nothing to do with it, not because you're only third party.. but because the other guy admitted he was at fault and you deal with his insurance company not yours.

it dosent matter whether you have 3rd party or full comp. You have his details. But you definitly need to get his insurance details then your insurance company should pursue the matter on your behalf.... what insurance company are you with?Criss wrote:thanks for everyone~

Actually his own insurance company doesn't have much to do with it. When I was rear ended I only had 3rd party, I called my insurance to advise them of it (Just Cars) and was advised the only thing they could do is if the assessor from the other party wasn't paying what's required to fix the car, they would write up a letter and claim more on your behalf, but that's about it.I8A4RE wrote:

Sorry to hear! I have been in the same situation at the moment. Forum: My FTO gooooone! Rear Ended!
I'm sorry to say unfortunately you wont receive a hire car if your third party insured. Since the 12th I still have not received a pay out for my car. Just, a hit of advice - don't leave your car at a smash repairer as you will get slogged with storage fees that his insurance wont cover. Umm, don't lodge a letter of demand - wait for them to lodge a claim! Keep ringing until they do. Thats my best advice. If you have an questions or anything let me know!
Good luck with everything!

As has been mentioned before, once you have his details, as long as he is at fault his insurance will fully cover the repairs. Im not sure why they require you send a letter or whatever. If your insurance company refuse to do anything about it, call his insurance company, give them his details and inform them he was at fault and cause damage to your car....they should take care of you..
Good Luck!

you can claim back a hire car for the duration of your repairs as long as it's fair and reasonable (i.e. dont hire out a 300C, and the reason can't be because you are too lazy to walk 5mins to your local pub), you will have to pay for the hire car yourself (aim for about $40 a day, i.e. your average 4 cylinder 4 door automatic) then submit that to the other driver's insurance company for "consideration", as i mentioned before as long as it's fair and reasonable they will pay it.mz_madz wrote:Sorry to hear! no harm in sending him a letter of demand. it should state who you are, who they are, you are holding them at fault, and what you have been quoted for repairs along with any other expenses such as reasonable hire car costs and storage costs. once they have lodged a claim they will be asked to fwd that letter of demand to their insurance company.
But on a personal note, if he is nice enough to leave you his details, call him, have a civilised chat as everyone else has mentioned that he's nice enough to leave his details, not a lot of people in this world would.
obviously it's his fault and he knows it, so it should be quite easy to work out. he has 2 choices:
1. to settle you privately, depending on his insurance access and what not, it may work out cheaper to settle you that way.
2. to go through his insurance company, which means he has to lodge a claim and he'll provide your details to his insurer and they will contact you (they generally will also tell him to provide you with his claim number and what not so you can contact them directly, which works out quicker)
now (i have to first apoligise that i didn't bother reading through the whole thread), if it's a company veh, generally they will go through insurance, and they won't fuss over it because it's just a tax deduction lol. but if it's going to go through privately he may not be happy with paying $40 per day for your hire veh, but when you speak to him put it all on the table, be civil and she'll be roses.
wow, that was long, anyways, any other Q's shoot me a PM

Criss......
i am so sorry to hear about your misfortune...
But sadly to say that i am having a similar situation to you at the moment, but less serious. Someone reversed into my car and damaged my front bumper. He gave me all his personal details and his insurance company name. I am holding a third party property with NRMA, i tried to ring them and explain the situation, but they said theres nothing to do with them. And then i tried to ring AMMI(his insurance company), they said they cant do anything without the claim form lodged by their client. WTF.......Then they asked me to write a letter of demand to their client. Bloody hell, its like totally his fault but i have to do all the work and have my car damaged.
Shall anyone can give out advice on what happen if that guy don't reply my calls and letter at all?
