Arghh... So i follow the above instructions and was successful in removing the stock gear knob to the point where I had just the gear lever. When i tried installing the new gear knob, it did not fit as expected. The knob was sitting too high. I did not want to tamper it,until i get some advice from here. I decided to put the stock one back. Now when I change gear,I hear a hissing sound on the front left side of the engine(right side when facing the engine). Is this normal??

Also has anyone tried fitting one of the following knobs?

Pics of the knob:

Thanks.

Yeah i remember these ones. I have one but never put it on cos you have to make the white plastic thing smaller so it slides into place properly. Dont know if this makes sense. Hopefully you understand since you have taken he stock one off.

Yeah, I read a few topics related to this. Will probably have to cut the lever to fit this knob in. Hmm...will probably wait for a DIY on this,as i do not want to cut off the lever without having a clue..and just drive with a lever until its fixed :) ...

With the hissing or crackling sound when changing gears, has anyone experienced this?Just wondering if this is normal, or did i screw up while removing the stock gear knob...

Can anyone confirm on their fto, if they hear a crackling/hissing sound, when shifting from P to N or P to D?

Cheers,
Rj

When changing gears from P to N and from N to D, I hear a buzzing sound...its a short buzz.. I traced it to the front right side of the engine bay(near/below the air filter)..i.e, when facing the car...I will try to take a pic of the location and post it here...

I removed the stock gear knob and reassembled it to check,if the buzz disappears...no luck... :(

Christ I've never heard that sound before, is it only in the engine bay you hear it or inside the car when you're actually changing gear? It sounds like a warning buzzer to me as if a connection is hitting off something it shouldnt be hitting off.

You didn't happen to be shaving when you were changing your gear knob, and then leave the shaver running in the engine bay did you?

I have never heard a sound like that before in any car, especially not the FTO.
