Newbie Sticky

Post by FTO338 »

As i mention on the other post, i think we should have a sticky that say "Newbie please read before posting"

which should include instruction on how to use the Seach, so we won't get any repeated post.

I think Kev has a really good idea, but to take it one step further, how about creating a section for newbies that covers how to use this forum as well as the common information that many of them seek?

The topic about how to use this forum really only needs two bits of information: 1) do a search and 2) read the Forum FAQ. The topics that cover common questions could also include links to the installation guides that are being worked on or other product info.

I would suggest that the best place for this section would be at the very top of this forum above "General Discussions" so it is the first topic newbies see.

e.g.

Newbies, Common Questions & Installation Guides
- STICKY: Searching & Using this forum
- STICKY: Newbies: Reveal yourself
- Central Locking issues
- Rattling Windows
- Oil Change
- Tyre Pressures
- Colours & Paint Codes
- Replacement Globes
- Changing Globes to Coloured LEDs
- etc.

I believe doing this will help the newbie find the information they are after faster as well as keeping the forums cleaner which benefit us all. :D

what do others think?

How long did that take you to think up?

That's really comprehensive and would have being useful the first time i logged on.

it jumped into my mind after reading Kev's suggestion.

Most of this information is around the forums, but to centralise it in a "Newbies, Common Questions & Installation Guides" section on this forum would make it all easier to find. ...just what a newbie wants!

great idea guys,

only change i'd make is that we put the info in the FTO Information section with direct links to a "noob" sticky on the General Forum. this keeps all the information in one section

Anyone wishing to help with the info feel free to submit it to me and i'll put it up - you will obviously be credited for it

I'll post these here so others can add their comments or suggestions (nicely ) if they feel any of the info should be changed:

Tyre Pressures
The standard tyre pressures for the FTO are:
Front: 32 PSI
Rear: 28 PSI
More information and tips on tyres can be found here: http://www.ftoaustralia.com/modules.php ... ries&cid=7

Paint Colours
The FTO came in eleven different colours. This included a range of classic colours as well as a range of highlighted colours that give a different appearance depending upon the light. There is also one colour which was limited to the special edition model.

Red
Passion Red - Code: R71 - Bright Red
Monaco Red - Code: R82 - Burgundy
Imperial Red - Code: R39C - Changes from a dark cherry to a magenta, depending upon the light

Blue
Moonlight Blue - Body Colour Code: T88C - Dark Blue
Icecelle Blue - Code: T73 - Changes from mid-blue to a purpley-blue, depending upon the light

Silver
Steel Silver - Code: A34 - Classic Silver
Symphonic Silver - Code: A26A - Changes from a classic silver colour to a silvery-gold colour, depending upon the light

Black & White
Pyreness Black - Code: X08 - Classic Black
Scotia White - Code: W83 - Classic White

Green
Timber Green - Code: G13 - Changes from mid-green to a greeny-aqua colour, depending upon the light

Yellow
Dandelion Yellow - Code: Y77C - Bright yellow, limited to a "special edition" model

Dash Lights
Most of the globes in the FTO dash are either T5 or T6.5 wedge base globe.

- T5 globe is available off the shelf from most car shops.
- T6.5 globe can be ordered via the car shops as a spare part from Narva.

As the T6.5 globe is a spare part it will not be listed in the Narva catalogue. Instead the car shop will need to ring Narva and get the part number.

Most Autobarns have received a Narva sample kit, which looks a little like a plastic fishing tackle box but with globes instead of hooks. In this kit is the T6.5 globe. So before ordering it as a spare part, ask them first if they have one of the Narva sample kits.

If you have no luck with that, you could replace the T6.5 globes with T5?s, however they will not be as bright. T5 globes will sit loosely in T6.5 holders, so it would be better to replace the T6.5 holders with a T5 holder.

Alternatively, you can replace both the T5 and T6.5 with LEDs, which are available in a range of colours and make your dash look fantastic at night.
