I change my oil/oil filter every 5000km anyway, $85 to keep my FTO running beautiful is well worth it.

Well my warranty says '10,000kms or 6 months, whichever occurs first. Now that's a pain in the arse. I've actually gone over the 6 months since my last service because I didn't think the car needed servicing, since I had only done just under 4000kms in that time. Of course that means if I make a warranty claim I could be in sh*t.

depends on how flexible the warranty company is... my one with western toyoya for my previous fto turned out to be good, well it was included in the deal anyway, they gave some leeway on the 6 month/10,000km by a couple of week/1000kms

they ended up replacing my A/C compressor for me and replacing my brake master cylinder under the warranty, 3 year warranty wasnt too bad at all, but only catch was that servicing had to be done by them... it paid off for me anyway... big companies like them can obviously afford to package in 3 year warranties with all their used cars...

Australasian Vehicle Cover

And it actually cost me $855 for 3 years of level E cover. Servicing has to be done every 10000km or 6 months, whichever is sooner. But I'm not sure if this warranty is only available with a purchase from a dealer.

Thanx rxboy,

i think i found some of the term condition, from yours:
 http://www.stateroads.com/AVCWarrantyConditions.htm

Hmm, although yours is relativly cheap, it looks like the claim limits are much lower on yours, for example engine claim on yours $500, while on the one that my dealer has it's $2000. Hmm...

I still don't know, it is a bit expensive, 1yr is $1100, $2000 for 3yrs. :?
I guess you will all tell me that it's up to me :)

I think the warranty doesn't really sound dodgy, they even have a website and everything. All you have to do is send them invoices etc, every service. A down side of this is that i'm capable of doing services on my own, (excluding major ones) so i will actually have to frequently go to a mechanic... if i do get it.

I'm not sure if AVC's conditions have changed now, but my contract had $4000 as the engine claim limit and same for transmission/gearbox. Maybe they've realised that this was too high.

it seems strange that he's so quick to drop the price on the car after only 3 weeks... car dealers quite often wait upto 12 weeks before dropping the price to "clear it out"... but average is 8 weeks.

i would never believe a dealer when they say "someone was going to buy, put down deposit got it inspected and couldn't get finance" the only time i'd believe that is if they had a copy of the SVI inspection report and tehn i'd still go through it with a fine tooth comb.

sounds like you're getting a good buy anyways.... congratulations!

A 6 month or 10,000km service interval sounds much more reasonable than a 5,000km interval.

If you scroll to the very bottom of the warranty page you will see they have an option for $4,000 coverage.

One thing to note about this warranty and possibly the one you are being offered Boris is that it is invalid if the vehicle has been modified. 8O

I'm paraphrasing here, but section 6 (INVALIDATION) of the contract has a subsection of things which are excluded from this agreement and point (iii) states: "Vehicles modified from the manufacturer's specifications."
