Car turns off while driving..

the car turns off while im driving....im thinking coz its either the car not warm up so when its on neutral while drivin the revs drops down.. thats what actually happen..the revs drops to 0 and turns off while drivin...happens when i leave it on neutral while drivin or when i change gear slow...recently it hasnt happen..just every now n den T.T

So, do you mean stalls, or does it fully shut down ...

If it fully shuts down, it could be something like an immobiliser ... Do you have an aftermarket alarm fitted...

But, what I actually think you mean is that it stalls, so if you really wanted to, you could just clutch start it whilst still going, so no real biggie ... But it could be the stepper motor that does this ... Either that or the idle controller, but I think they are the same thing on the FTO ...

Do a search for "STEPPER MOTOR" and see some of the problems that this little thing causes...

well im not stalling for sure.....it seems like a stall...but im doin like 50 and chuck it on neutral downhill and revs went too low and stall or turn off....den i had 2 turn it on again with key

It has happened to me everytime before when my car is not warmed up properly. But after i changed my transmission and engine oil to premium ones the problem never came up again.

When was the last time u changed the transmission oil, if your car is not properly warmed up and u find it hard while chaging the gears prob tats it. After changing mine all was fine after tat.

the gear doesnt crunches....it changes smoothly,....but it just stalls when its not in gear

could be stepper OR idle controler, yes they are two different pieces
idle control is little black unit on front of throttle body with two elongated bolt holes so you can adjust.....

what is car idling at? is it 'hunting'?

when at idle do the revs fluctuate as in keep jumping ie 1000rpm then 300rpm etc etc

I thought that was the throttle position sensor vip?

Thought the stepeer or idle speed control was the same thing under the intake?

hmmm i've always known it as idle speed controler, stepper motor is diff as it keeps idle stable by allowing correct ratios so car does not stall, the other controls what you want to idle at

I found it as the throttle position when I was noob by taking it off to clean it and not repositioning it properly. Lead to not being able to drive on small throttle openings. Adjusted it and all was good again. Isn't that a throttle position sensor thing?

that would happen and if you had it open to far it would not close properly under deccel and probably 'cough' or be jerky.....

Your probably right. or even a mechanic versus an enthuisiasts name

Got exactly the symptoms you mentioned cause I had it open too far

Seconded.

Especially that you mentioned that the car hasn't warmed up yet. If the stepper is dead the computer will take a while to learn idle while the throttle is slightly ajar. I'm assuming that's the only way you can keep the car from dying?

as a trainee mechanic an fto owner, i had the same problem, boss told me it was either stepper motor (60% chance) dirty throttle body (30%) or the battery, but when you put it in neutral next, look at the volt reading, mines normally on around 14, but when i had the problem and i put it in neutral the volts would slowly fall and then it would stall. if the volts arent droppin that rules out your battery, id go for cheapest option first which is to clean the throttle body

but if its the battery...it wouldnt happen just when my car isnt warm enough...it only happens in the 1st 5mins if i havent touch the car for like 6hr+
and how much would it cost 2 clean the throttle body?

Its the stepper - go and buy one. Its 2 bolts to swap out.
