Oilchange --> overfill

heya guys, I did an oilchange on my car during the weekend.
From memory, the measure of oil to put in was 4.1ltr, correct?

anyways, to cut the story short, it seems that according to the dip stick, 4ltr of oil is above the max line.

my question is, is this bad for the car? I heard that that can actually cause the car to struggle? any educated comments whether that is true?

if so, is there any easy way to get rid of excess oil (apart from draining a bit of oil from the sump)?

Take off the oil cap and suck some out with a straw!

I've tried that... but the taste of Shell Helix Ultra didn't taste as nice as I thought it would

Hmm, well the way i see it, is you just drain a little bit from the sump plug.

Another way is to gravity feed it from the oil cap. The best way to do this is with a clear hose, that way you see when you need to stop sucking. Personally i have never done this, but to make you feel better it works like a gem from my fish tank

No wonder you overfilled... i'm not sure the exact liters of oil in an fto, but my ford fairmont only takes about 3.5 liters

And if the fto takes more than 4 liters i would be surprised...

I overfilled my lawn mower once, it really didn't like it... i had to pay $80 to get it all cleaned out, cos oil got everywhere... but i think i put way way to much. In your case it might be ok, not sure...

I did an oil change two weekends ago. You did change the oil filter too right - as that also holds oil.

I ended up putting in roughly 4litres total. And that ends up abouit 2 mm below top notch on dip stick. When you measured ion the dip stick this was after 10 or so minutes of driving yeah?

4.1 litres including the oil that gets into the filter would probably be correct. Just take it out of the sump...easier that way, just slightly messy

mines about 4.3 lts with a change of oil filter.

Also be sure the car is level where ever you are checking the dipstick and few degrees higher in the rear can give a reading higher than what is actually in there.

yeah.. i changed the oil filter too

i'm assuming it's ok. coz the car is running fine. it's only approx. 1-2mm above the top notch of the dip stick...(unless sometone tells me otherwise, and knows that it can be damaging)
I must've put more than 4.1ltr from the container
