There should be timing marks on the lower sprocket and the cam shaft sprockets to line up. Just remember to put the bottom one out one tooth before you put the tensioner on then check it is all lined up correctly once you have put the tensioner on and turned the crank by had two or three times.

That sounds like more hassle than just lining up the timing marks IMHOpayaya wrote:Screw the one tooth ahead crap make sure you mark the belt onto all pulleys. So when you put a new one on line the old belt with the new and make sure the new belt meets the timing marks of the cam pulley and crank pulley.

Um when I mentioned putting on another timing belt I dont mean just use the marks you made yourself! You still have to align the pulleys but if you align the pulleys and fit new belt to exactly the markers you made up you can guaranteed the pulleys to be in exactly the proper position.Storm wrote:That sounds like more hassle than just lining up the timing marks IMHOpayaya wrote:Screw the one tooth ahead crap make sure you mark the belt onto all pulleys. Think about it, you can have one cam aligned but another could be a half a tooth out and you wouldnt even know it.
If you change your timing belt you will know what I mean.

With the tension on the belt and the timing marks aligned if you are half a tooth out then you cant really do much about it other than choose to be half a tooth advanced or half a tooth retarded. The standard pulleys dont let you make adjustments of half a tooth. Thats why you can buy vernier pulleys which allow you to adjust these small variations.

Honestly mate, no I wouldn't bother. I saw a write up where the guy had did it and I thought about doing it when I changed mine but I didn't bother. The timing marks can only really match up one way and the pulleys spring all out of place because of the valve spring tension as soon as you take the old belt off anyway.payaya wrote:Would you mark your belt if you had to do it again?
The only thing that I would say is indispensible is little bulldog clips to clip the belt to the cam pulleys which stops the valve springs pulling the pulleys round.

I've just done mine last week. And even if you mark the new belt then put it around the cam wheels, to get it to line up with the crank pulley mark you have to rotate the crank one tooth so you can pick up that mark on the belt. As you tension the belt it will rotate back.So not a problem.

going fast doesn't kill you, it's the sudden stop that does.

just make sure cams all lined up and hand crank it around a few times to make sure no valves hit and bingo

FFS, make sure you turn the engine over by hand at least 3-6 times and make sure the lines match up every time
